Activities at Spen Court Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Angela Blackburn
My name is Angela and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Spen Court. I get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness.
We feel it is important to build community connections and maintain our resident’s social interaction outside the care home.
We ensure we deliver a person-centered program of events and activities and build strong relationships with our residents, their families and friends.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Spen Court Care Home

Easter egg hunt
Staff and residents home have been having fantastic fun hiding Easter eggs all over the place in the lounges, in the resident’s bedrooms, in planters, in the reception area. Basically anywhere and everywhere for our friends from the Co-operative nursery in Dewsbury.
The staff and residents decided to challenge local children to find 18 Easter eggs that have been hiding in all kinds of different locations all over the home. The children then had to write down the number of each egg and where they had been found in order to take part in the Easter egg Hunt.

St David's Day
Celebrations were under way as residents and staff marked St. David’s Day. The home was in high spirits as they celebrated the national day of Wales with decorating throughout the home with fresh daffodils. In honour of the traditional feast day and the country’s patron saint we learnt all about Welsh traditions and listened to Welsh music.
General Manager, Paula Pearson said: “We loved celebrating St David’s Day here at Spen Court it was lovely to see and smell the beautiful bright daffodils throughout the home”

Mother's Day
Residents celebrated Mother’s Day with visits and video calls from family members near and far. The home was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers and bunting for the occasion. Staff arranged an afternoon cream tea. Second chef, Angela Ellis prepared a special menu of delicious homemade cakes, scones with fresh cream & jam & an assortment of mini treats to celebrate the special day.
General Manager, Paula Pearson said: “We’ve all had a really lovely day. It has been so good to see family members who were able to visit in person and to have video calls with those who are further away. Our residents enjoyed a fantastic, delicious afternoon cream tea prepared by our brilliant chefs. Days like these are so special.”

Ballroom Dancercise
We've been taking part in a monthly session of Ballroom Dancercise.
This is a new activity that we have in the home. It is for both professional ballroom dancers and those that are not so good at tripping the light fantastic. As long as we have fun.
Everyone is welcome to join in, the next session will be taking place on 29th March, Good Friday at 2.30pm to 3.30pm at Spen Court.
Christine & Andrew have many years of dancing experience. They have danced their way professionally into many competitions, too many to mention.
They have won a fantastic amounts of trophies. They have been dancing together since the young age of 15. They are now a happily married couple who have carried on with their great passion.
They are sharing their talent within care homes by providing ballroom lessons & seated exercises combined.
The residents thoroughly enjoy the sessions and they are adapted to all abilities.
This is a fantastic way to have fun and to keep healthy.
