Activities at South Grange Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at South Grange Care Home

Pancake Day

The homes hospitality team and residents were very busy on Pancake Day making over 70 pancakes for all of us to enjoy.  Everyone was able to choose from a selection of mouth-watering toppings from the traditional lemon and sugar to jam and cream, but the favourite was chocolate spread, banana and cream!  The pancakes were delicious.  What is your favourite topping?

Chinese 'Year of the Ox'

South Grange celebrated the Chinese ‘Year of the Ox’, with residents enjoying a delicious three course Chinese themed lunch cooked by chef, Vicky. Residents were very keen to read their horoscopes and which animal sign they were relating to the year in which they were born. The residents loved watching videos of traditional lion and dragon dances loving the vibrant colours of the costumes. It was a fun-filled day for all.

Do we have a story for you!

South Grange care home in Monifieth has been finding out the favourite stories of residents and staff, and sharing them during National Storytelling Week.

Many of the residents at South Grange care home have a knack of telling a great story or two, and National Storytelling Week is a perfect opportunity to experience the joy of storytelling.

Storytelling is one of the oldest art forms in the world so, to help keep the custom alive, residents have been talking with each othe about the tales that they were told as children. Residents and staff also had a lovely video call from their local nursery school who choose their favourite stores to read to them.

The home is collecting residents’ life stories with one resident choosing to tell us about her life in Malta as a child. Another proudly told us about her life as a bankers wife, which took them to many countries including North Africa and India.

World Chocolate Cake Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s South Grange care home had a fantastic time celebrating International Chocolate Cake Day, surely one of the best days of the year!

General Manager, Fiona Torrie said: “It wasn’t just the residents that were excited when we found out there was an International Chocolate Cake Day, the eyes of all our staff lit up too – everyone loves chocolate cake and even better when there is a good excuse to eat it!”

Burns celebrations at South Grange

South Grange celebrated Rabbie Burns day kicking off with a  Scottish quiz, which residents and staff were able to answer, testing their Scottish heritage before tucking into the traditional Haggis, tatties and neeps, washed down with a wee dram.   The day was finished off with a socially distanced Scottish get together with plenty of music and toe tapping with a little more of their favourite tipple!

The King is in the building!

The King was in the building as South Grange celebrated Elvis’s birthday with a themed day, with a few of his most devoted fans getting into the spirit of the day.  Frank, resident of Seven Arches even donned his Elvis outfit to the delight of everyone.  There was a little competitiveness as residents took part in an Elvis themed quiz and enjoying American hot dogs, burgers a firm favourite of the King whilst his hits played in the background.
