Activities at Shawford Springs Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Joanne Gadd

Activities Co-ordinator

Hello, I am Joanne. I have worked as an activities coordinator for over seven years. In that time I have built a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in designing and implementing activities that will support the mind, body and soul. I have a passion for delivering person centred sessions and will strive to ensure our weekly programme is engaging for all. I love organising events and am continually looking for ways to connect with our local community.

Life at Shawford Springs Care Home

Arts and Crafts

This week we’ve been getting creative in preparation for this years #tourdebarchester cycle event, which is due to visit us at Shawford Springs in June.

The 4 day event will see riders cycle over 270 miles, stopping at 15 Barchester care homes along the south coast in order to raise money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation.

So Lys & Jean have been spending time in our activity room creating banners & decorations in preparation for the big day

Meaningful Moments - Stonehenge

Meaningful Moments

Here at Shawford Springs we aspire to turn our resident’s goals & wishes into a reality through our Meaningful Moments initiative. Whether it be taking a special trip or learning a new skill, we aim to support our residents to live their best lives.

One of our residents, David, has a keen interest in history & ancient civilisations. He recently told us that he has always wanted to visit Stonehenge, as he’d never had the opportunity to see the monument up close before. So, on Monday, we took a very special trip to the English Heritage site to make his wish a reality.

It was a wonderful day out with David remarking: ‘There were clear skies & chilly winds for my expedition to Stonehenge, but it was a joyous & memorable afternoon.’

Army Museum of Flying - Middle Wallop

We recently took a trip to the Army Flying Museum

The museum holds a large collection of exhibits which showcase over 100 years of British Army flying history.

We thoroughly enjoyed spending the afternoon taking in the various planes & army vehicles on display & even got to sit in the pilot seat of one of the helicopters. Beryl told us that she has fond memories of the museum, as she often used to take her children there when they were growing up.
