Activities at Shawford Springs Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Joanne Gadd

Activities Co-ordinator

Hello, I am Joanne. I have worked as an activities coordinator for over seven years. In that time I have built a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in designing and implementing activities that will support the mind, body and soul. I have a passion for delivering person centred sessions and will strive to ensure our weekly programme is engaging for all. I love organising events and am continually looking for ways to connect with our local community.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Oh, no we didn’t…. Oh yes we did!

This week we had an absolutely fantastic time watching Otterbourne Theatre Company’s pantomime at the village hall. They put on a wonderful performance of the Little Mermaid which had us all laughing along and we thought the costumes & dancing were excellent too!

A big well done to all involved & thank you for the special shout out at the end

International Flower day

Did you know that 19th January was International Flower Day? We decided to mark the occasion with a spot of flower arranging in our activity room.

Thursday Cinema Club

On Thursdays we have our weekly film night, this week we enjoyed a showing of Oppenheimer with a Gin & Tonic in our purpose built cinema room

Travels in our Mini Bus

This week may have been chilly but that didn’t stop us enjoying a lovely outing to In-Excess Garden Centre in Fair Oak for drinks in their beautiful café. Thank you to the café staff for their speedy & friendly service.

Community Knit and Natter

Monday mornings mean one thing here at Shawford Springs… knitting! Our Community Knit & Natter Club had their weekly get-together today & have started work on their new project - knitted roses for Valentine’s Day

The group are always keen to welcome new members, so if you fancy starting a new hobby in 2024 why not give our knitting club a go!

Clever Crafting

Trevor & Janice joined us in our activity room for some crafting this week. We have started making book themed decorations for our new library which will be opening next month. We can’t wait to see the finished display!
