Activities at Queens Manor Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Shannon Cullen

Senior Head of Lifestyle

Hi, my name is Shannon and I am Head of Lifestyle and Enrichment here at Queens Manor. I have come to Queens Manor with 6 years of experience in the planning, activities and events sector.

I ensure that myself and the team get to  know each resident's preferences so that we can deliver a person-centred programme of events and activities within the home -  Including activities that positively impact physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. I strongly believe that creating great moments and memories for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities is the way forward.

In an era of developing technologies, we are using new ways of reaching out to family and friends - though Zoom, Skype and Facebook Portal. We hope that our residents never feel alone or too far away from their loved ones this way.   Each day I like to ensure that our residents enjoy themselves in a calm, stimulating and fun environment, whilst creating bonds with each other and staff.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Queens Manor Care Home

Knit and Natter

Residents at Queens Manor love to showcase their inner creativity as they enjoyed a Knit and Natter session together. Our ladies chatted, shared stories, reminisced as they enjoyed each other’s company.

Knit and Natter sessions provide invaluable benefits, particularly for older adults. These gatherings encourage social interaction, combat loneliness and promote mental wellbeing. The simple act of knitting also helps improve fine motor skills and cognitive function, making it an excellent activity for older people.

A walk on the wild side

It was ‘beasties and gorgeous creatures as we took a walk on the wild side with ‘Cool Creatures’.

A big thank-you to Calum from Cool Creatures who, along with a Meerkat, Armadillo, Blue Tongued Skink, a Tenrec and Royal Python, brought joy, curiosity, smiles and much laughter to our residents which we were delighted to also share with family members and our colleagues for a fully immersive and engaging sensory experience.

Bon Voyage

Residents and staff at Queens Manor would like to wish a fond farewell and bon voyage to our lovely GP, Dr Andy Wall as he embarks on a new life down under.

We wish you all the best wishes in this next chapter and we are going to miss you but are very excited for you. Good luck and bon voyage.

From everyone at Queens Manor!

Some Mother's do Ave Em

Residents across our services had a fantastic time enjoying the virtual screening of Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em. Frank Spencer’s comical misadventures had everyone laughing and it was wonderful to see so many happy faces.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and a special thanks to The Barn Theatre in the Cotswolds for bringing this stage adaptation of the beloved sitcom to our screens.

Queens Manor Bakes

We are super excited to reintroduce our weekly baking club to Queens Manor!

Residents and staff are loving baking up a storm for our coffee mornings – with sweet delights ranging from cherry loaf, chocolate chip muffins, and banana cake. The tasty treats are then served at our weekly Thursday coffee morning for all to enjoy & they have received great feedback – even from our head chef!

Baking club is not only a great time to get messy, have fun and make some yummy cakes, but it is also a wonderful time to reminisce with like minded people. Many of our residents often remember baking with their nanas during summer, or teaching their children and grandchildren how to make homemade rock buns – this activity creates a great atmosphere to relive memories and experience a blast from the past.

Singing Group at QM!

So far our twice monthly singing group is going down a treat!

With six regular attendees and a set list agreed upon, it is a lovely session full of song, laughter and chatting amongst everyone.

We are soon going to be practicing our Christmas carols, in the hope to spread some Christmas cheer in December. Resident Helen Sims commented that “it is nice to have a singing group in the home – I used to sing frequently in my younger years and don’t do it much now… the singing group reminds me so much of how I used to enjoy it!“.
