Activities at Queens Manor Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Shannon Cullen

Senior Head of Lifestyle

Hi, my name is Shannon and I am Head of Lifestyle and Enrichment here at Queens Manor. I have come to Queens Manor with 6 years of experience in the planning, activities and events sector.

I ensure that myself and the team get to  know each resident's preferences so that we can deliver a person-centred programme of events and activities within the home -  Including activities that positively impact physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. I strongly believe that creating great moments and memories for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities is the way forward.

In an era of developing technologies, we are using new ways of reaching out to family and friends - though Zoom, Skype and Facebook Portal. We hope that our residents never feel alone or too far away from their loved ones this way.   Each day I like to ensure that our residents enjoy themselves in a calm, stimulating and fun environment, whilst creating bonds with each other and staff.

Kindness from Local School

We were so happy to receive cards and messages of kindness from Clermiston Primary School which were handed in by their teacher, Claire Harvey.

During the current climate and this difficult time it is even more of a priority for our team to keep our resident’s spirits high. The acts of kindness that we have received from our surrounding community have been an overwhelming support and we are so thankful to Clermiston Primary School for creating these wonderful cards, they have brought huge smiles to the faces of our residents and really helped us keep a cheerful and loving atmosphere within our home. We look forward to opening again to our community so we can say our thank yous in person

Games Galore!

We absolutely love playing games here at Queens Manor and what better time to get together and enjoy some fun indoors than during these difficult times. Among the favourites is ‘Guess Who?’ and it seems Gregory Peck went down a treat for some of our ladies!

2020 Carehome.co.uk Awards

We are proud to announce that we have won a carehome.co.uk award! We have been named as one of the top 20 care homes in Scotland for 2020. Well done to everyone who made this possible!

Sunny Art Sessions

Sunflowers are a great way to bring a splash of colour in to our home and in this current climate, bringing in some sunshine for our residents is even more important than ever. Creativity is always flowing here at Queens Manor and art is a firm favourite with our residents. All enjoyed sketching and painting their subject matter and here’s the lovely B showing off her fantastic drawing skills.

And we will walk 500 miles!

We started a walking club a few weeks ago and our residents, competitive as they are, are determined to get to 500 miles as an ode to Edinburgh's much loved Proclaimers!

We all get together, grab our coats, trainers & count the miles! So far it has been 42 miles and we'll be sure to reach those 500 miles very soon!

Walking is one of the easiest ways to get active, to reduce stress & to improve the mood.

Music Therapy with Jenny

Residents attend a music therapy session every Wednesday morning at Nordoff Robins.

We enjoy playing a range of different instruments such as drums, guitars & marracas and we also sing along to our favourite songs such as Flower of Scotland , Loch Lomond and many more!

It’s a great morning led by the fantastic and enthusiastic Jenny and is such an uplifting experience for everyone.
