Activities at Queens Manor Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Shannon Cullen

Senior Head of Lifestyle

Hi, my name is Shannon and I am Head of Lifestyle and Enrichment here at Queens Manor. I have come to Queens Manor with 6 years of experience in the planning, activities and events sector.

I ensure that myself and the team get to  know each resident's preferences so that we can deliver a person-centred programme of events and activities within the home -  Including activities that positively impact physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. I strongly believe that creating great moments and memories for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities is the way forward.

In an era of developing technologies, we are using new ways of reaching out to family and friends - though Zoom, Skype and Facebook Portal. We hope that our residents never feel alone or too far away from their loved ones this way.   Each day I like to ensure that our residents enjoy themselves in a calm, stimulating and fun environment, whilst creating bonds with each other and staff.

Life at Queens Manor Care Home

Flower power

Queens Manor residents Kathleen and Isabella thoroughly enjoyed the flower arranging session we had this morning !

Using a variety of flowers and floated the ladies managed to create some displays which are now on show in our reception and cafe area!

Introducing Tilly!

Residents and staff alike were thrilled when Tilly walked through the reception doors this morning!   As you will know, we are a very animal orientated home and we love and all animals that come through the doors - especially dogs - so Tilly was very warmly welcomed by all!

Tilly spent her time going round individual rooms and seeing residents on a one to one basis and also in the communal areas saying hello to everyone who walked by!

Trip to IKEA

Dorothy loved the sporadic trip to IKEA today with our general manage -Donna - and head of maintenance-Craig!  We couldn’t have a trip to ikea without a taste of their famous meatballs!

Home scores 4's across the board

Residents, families & staff alike are all excited and proud to announce that we passed a recent inspection by the Care Inspectorate with an overall 'good' rating after being praised for a responsive, safe, effective, caring and well-led service.

Given this great news and to show appreciation for all the members of staff, Fiona Fagan - the Divisional Director, popped in to present each member of staff with a £100 voucher, to reward their hard work in contributing to the rating.

Fiona said “not only is it amazing that you have received a good rating on your first inspection, but it is even greater given the recent circumstances in the nation of the past few years and the recent challenges within the care sector. It is truly a true representation of what a great, well led service this is”

We are all very excited by the rating and can’t wait to score higher next time!

Care Fest

In line with the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Queens Manor decided to host our very own celebrations – which was a great success!

Massive thank you to all of the amazing staff and attendees who made the event such a success - and a special thank you to our new friends and entertainers - Melanie, Joe and Nancy!

107th birthday celebrations

Huge Birthday celebrations to Queens Manor Resident Elizabeth, who has turned 107 today!

She has celebrated today by having a morning tea party with the other residents of Queens Manor and her daughters - celebrations included a wee glass of champers, sweet treats and fingers sandwiches made by our wonderful chefs and a beautiful birthday cake made by one of our Team Leaders - Jennifer!
