Activities at Ochil Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Life at Ochil Care Home

Burns celebrations

Everyone had a great time celebrating Rabbie Burn’s Day with the accordion entertainment from Nicky McMichall who played our favourite traditional Scottish songs.

We all enjoyed some Scottish nibbles and cakes by our fantastic kitchen staff, some refreshments and of course a ‘wee dram’ was on offer.  It was a great afternoon with fantastic music and a few wee dances followed by a traditional meal of haggis neeps and tatties.

Flower arranging

A group of ladies at Ochil Home came together for a social morning of flower arranging. We dove into it and created beautiful displays to decorate the dining room with. The flower arrangements looked truly beautiful and we all loved the sensory aspects of the activity. Residents enjoyed smelling the flowers and touching them and seemed so happy at the end.

Bullseye

A game of darts delights one of our darts champion Bill who enjoyed a fun afternoon playing his favourite sport with a Velcro dartboard. This is a popular game in our home, as it is familiar and simple. Bill likes to spend time to himself in his room and the team likes to encourage him to get involved in activities/games and this one is definitely his favourite!

Medical Detection Dogs

Across our services residents had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Emilia from Medical Detection Dogs. Emilia took us on a journey to discover how the organisation began training dogs to support people with complex health conditions, saving their lives on a daily basis.

Using their amazing sense of smell, these dogs can identify odour changes emitted prior an episode and alert the person to take preventative action.

We were introduced to the wonderful dogs and the science behind the sniff.  It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our canine-loving residents.

Birthday celebrations

Birthdays are a firm feature in our life enrichment programme and everyone at Ochil would like to say a very big Happy Birthday to resident,  Kathleen who celebrated her 70-years young surrounded by our family and friends recently.

The birthday girl was spoilt with gifts, lovely cake and food!

Happy Birthday - Kathleen from residents and colleagues at Ochil.

Eyes down for a game of bingo

It was a fun-filled afternoon at our home when we came together for a game of 'Body Boosting Bingo' by Age Scotland!

Body Boosting Bingo is a game of bingo with a twist! All numbers are linked to a movement, for example ‘Number 10, is ‘let’s twist again’.

Players are invited to join in doing movements along to a fun music score! It’s a great way to keep ourselves active and also warm in this freezing weather
