Activities at Ochil Care Home
Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Celebrating life at Ochil Care Home
What a Jam-Packed and Joyful Tuesday!
This morning, some of our wonderful Residents joined All Ability Cycling Live Active Leisure for an absolutely brilliant session at Bells Sports Centre. We spent a glorious hour exploring the beautiful North Inch by bike, and the smiles said it all, pure joy, freedom, and shared laughter.
We had the privilege of joining the group and witnessing moments that truly moved us. Watching Residents ride side-by-side, chatting and laughing, reminded us of how powerful connection and movement can be. One Resident even told us it was the most fun they’d had in ages, and we couldn’t agree more!
These experiences are the heartbeat of our community and what makes our work so fulfilling. It’s not just about the activity, it’s about the confidence it builds and the freedom it offers. We left the session feeling incredibly grateful for the wonderful team at Live Active Leisure, who brought such warmth and energy to the morning, and for the Residents, whose enthusiasm always brightens our day.
A Musical Reunion Across Generations at Ochil Care Home
Something truly magical happened at Ochil Care Home this week, a meeting that bridged decades, genres, and hearts through the shared language of music.
George, once the bass backbone of Perth’s iconic 1960s band The Erle Blue Stars, welcomed a very special guest, Frankie, current bassist of The Crom, one of Scotland’s most exciting award-winning indie rock bands. The two met for tea, but what followed was far more than just a cuppa, it was a soulful exchange of stories, gig memories, and deep admiration for the unmistakable growl of a Fender bass.
Sitting across from each other, you could almost feel the rhythm pulsing between generations. George’s eyes lit up as he recounted playing in packed dance halls in the ’60s, while Frankie shared tales of muddy festival sets and studio sessions. Both spoke with such passion, proof that the love of music doesn’t fade with time, it simply grows richer.
This wasn’t just a casual visit, it was a reminder of how much joy comes from celebrating creativity across ages. Our residents were captivated, listening in and even chiming in with their own musical memories. It was warm, personal, and one of those rare moments that leaves a lasting impression on everyone involved.
Whether you’re playing to a crowd or reminiscing in a quiet lounge, music has the power to connect us, heart-to-heart, string to string.
Charlie’s Triumphant Return to West End Bowling Club
This afternoon brought a wave of nostalgia and heartfelt smiles as one of our cherished residents, Charlie, made a long-awaited return to the West End Bowling Club. Serving as Club President in 1989 and 1990, Charlie’s legacy on the green is fondly remembered by fellow bowlers and long-time friends. His arrival sparked warm reunions, laughter, and shared memories of sunlit matches and friendly rivalries.
By his side, Charlie’s wife Moira looked on with radiant pride, her joy unmistakable as she watched him reconnect with his old companions. Stories flowed, hands were clasped, and spirits soared, echoes of afternoons once spent in spirited camaraderie and community.
Moments like these are a reminder that the bonds we forge through shared experiences remain strong, even as the years pass. We were honoured to witness Charlie’s homecoming, a beautiful testament to the enduring power of connection and memory.

A Wildly Wonderful Picnic to Remember!
In celebration of National Picnic Week, our residents at Ochil Care Home enjoyed a glorious day out at Camperdown Wildlife Centre. With hampers packed and spirits high, we basked in the warmth of the summer sun, making the most of nature’s beauty and each other’s company.
Nestled among the trees and birdsong, we shared a leisurely picnic before setting off to explore the animal enclosures. From curious lemurs to majestic birds of prey, every encounter brought delight, laughter, and plenty of photo-worthy moments.
It was a day of sunshine, fresh air, and cherished memories—a perfect reminder of the joy found in simple moments shared outdoors. We’re already looking forward to the next adventure!
Battered Bliss: Celebrating National Fish and Chips Day with Marini’s Perth
What a fantastic day our residents had as we tucked into a celebration of one of Britain’s favourite traditions — National Fish and Chips Day! The team at Marini’s Perth served up generous plates of perfectly crispy fish and golden chips that were nothing short of mouth-watering. Every bite brought smiles and contented chatter, creating a shared moment of joy around the table.
We’re incredibly grateful to the wonderful staff at Marini’s for their warm welcome and attentive service. Their kindness and hospitality made the outing even more special for everyone involved.
Here’s to good food, great company, and outings that leave lasting memories!
Melodies and Memories: A Joyful Visit from Oakbank School Spring Orchestra
This week, the halls of Ochil Care Home were alive with music, thanks to a beautiful visit from the talented Oakbank School Spring Orchestra. Residents and staff gathered to enjoy a heartfelt performance that filled the home with both joy and nostalgia.
A truly special moment was shared when our very own Norman took to the piano alongside Audrey on the fiddle. Their spontaneous duet had everyone smiling — a wonderful reminder of the musical spirit that lives within our home.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to the students and teachers of Oakbank School for sharing their time and talents with us, and to everyone who helped make the day such a special one.
Blair Drummond Safari Park
Golden sunshine bathed Blair Drummond Safari Park as residents embarked on a nostalgic adventure for Dementia Action Week. Childhood memories of zoo visits came alive as they marvelled at majestic rhinos, playful monkeys, and awe-inspiring lions.
A delicious lunch fuelled the excitement, leading to the ultimate highlight—a thrilling drive through the animal reserves, offering breathtaking encounters with nature’s finest. Laughter and connection filled the day, made even more magical by perfect weather.
Tartan tea party
Last Friday, our Community Café made its debut in true Scottish style—a lively Tartan Tea Party! The room buzzed with laughter, the clink of teacups, and the joy of connection as we came together in support of Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.
From tempting treats to a spirited round of “Guess the Scottish Slang,” surprises were as plentiful as smiles. With heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined and contributed, we celebrate not just a new beginning but the promise of many more gatherings to come.
