Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home

The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home

Medical Detection Dogs

Across our services residents had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Emilia from Medical Detection Dogs.

Emilia took us on a journey to discover how the organisation began training dogs to support people with complex health conditions, saving their lives on a daily basis.

Using their amazing sense of smell, these dogs can identify odour changes emitted prior an episode and alert the person to take preventative action.

We were introduced to the wonderful dogs and the science behind the sniff.  It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our canine-loving residents.

Musical Moments

everyone was so excited to welcome back Maggie from Musical Moments to entertain us with her range of musical based activities, including safe adapted exercises.

The sessions are tailored to suit both group and individual sessions, with the aim of providing fun for all residents at Mulberry Court, maintaining physical and mental well-being.

Holy Communion

We hold Holy Communion at Mulberry Court, fortnightly. The local Minister, who is authorised by the local church, provides teachings of beliefs and offers group and individual spiritual guidance, for residents, families and friends.

Recently we said a prayer to a well respected and loved resident who passed away peacefully, as well as singing our hearts out with passion and love, with a favourite hymn, ‘Praise my Soul, the King of Heaven’.

Barchester's Big Quiz

All over the country our care homes and hospitals linked up for Barchester’s Big Quiz of the year!

Residents tested their knowledge with a variety of questions, from historical humdingers and musical musings to pictorial puzzlers and connective conundrums.

Everyone who participated had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Christmas Cake Winner

Excitement is running high at Mulberry Court Care Home in York where the talented hospitality team led by head chef Steve Hill have been named the winners of the annual Barchester Christmas Cake competition for the North Division.

The hospitality team at Mulberry Court put their heads together and donned their aprons to come up with the most amazing Christmas cake decorated to perfection.  Their fabulous cake is designed as part of Barchester Christmas Cake Competition and consists of delicious ingredients such as plump sultanas, dried mixed fruit peel and not forgetting the sherry.

Head chef and catering manager, Steve Hill, spoke with residents and they came up with the traditional theme of Santa going down the chimney to deliver presents – it was a whole home approach. The home received £500 as a prize which will go towards activities and trips out for their residents.

Christmas Day!

The day began, following a Buck’s Fizz breakfast, with the delivery of presents by General Manager, Rachel Moss, and the Hospitality Service Manager, Debbie Richardson, which was very entertaining with lots of hugs and smiles.

Everyone admired the dining rooms which were adorned with beautiful dressed decorated tables, where the traditional home-cooked Christmas dinner, with all the trimmings was served. Thank you to our talented Head Chef, Steve Hill, Chef, Ian Whitehead and all the kitchen staff and hostesses for such a delicious and wonderful meal.

Everyone bursting at the seams, we finished off with a light hearted family quiz, followed by the King's speech
