Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home

The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Zoe Giles

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Zoe I am the lead activities co-ordinator here at Mulberry Court, I started in January 2024 having previously worked at another care home on reception, however I  started doing more and more activities with the resident’s there so when I got the chance to move across to a Barchester home and do the role of lead I took the opportunity.

I have always enjoyed organising and am usually the one in the family who brings everyone together and sorts things so I feel I have found my true calling!

I am so lucky to be able to say I love my job, no two days are ever the same, although every day is so rewarding and to know I have made a difference to someone is the greatest feeling whether that’s through a group activity or an individual room visit to even stopping and saying a few words to them.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home

Staff praised for embracing digital change!

Here at Mulberry Court, we embrace change. For some, it's welcomed. For others, it's a challenge, and quite a scary thought.

2nd Chef, Ian Whitehead, was someone who had avoided modern technology, not even having an email address until recently. However, not one to give in and, with support from his manager, Rachael Moss, and the implementation team at Barchester, he has embraced the change going head on with the challenge.

Rachael Moss said Ian has worked so hard and not backed away from the digital change and is now embracing the digital era. He is even considering a smartphone! He was presented with a manager's special achievement certificate and gift voucher for all his hard work, dedication and his can-do attitude!

Well done Ian!

Alpaca Visit

We had some very special visitors to Mulberry Court Care Home for our latest animal interaction day: some alpacas and guinea pigs.

Residents, their families and friends, as well as staff, interacted with the animals and asked lots of varied and interesting questions to their keepers.

Those who attended really enjoyed the session and said what pleasure they'd got from their visit.
We also had a birthday recently, so a busy few days.

Alpaca adventure!

Mulberry Court was full of animal mischief when a group of alpacas came to visit the home. Residents were pleasantly surprised to see their new furry friends roaming around their home as Butterwick Animal Retreat paid a visit.

General Manager Rachael Moss said: “Our residents have really enjoyed their unusual visitors today. We knew that having the farm here would be a bit of fun for all our residents, especially as some find it difficult to go on many outings in our minibus.  We are always looking for new activities for the residents, and today we have seen seen the enjoyment and the therapeutic influence animals can have on people.”

Flower Power for International Flower Day

We celebrated International Flower Day on Sunday 19th so residents here at Mulberry Court joined forces to create a number of lovely floral displays for our reception area.

Flowers help lift everyone’s spirits with their wonderful scents and visual impact. I think you will agree that our ladies did a wonderful job, and we are looking forward to seeing all the buds opening up in the coming few days.

Elvis Visit!

Residents here at Mulberry Court wanted to celebrate what would have been Elvis's 90th birthday, with him being still one of the most popular artists known and, to date, selling over 1 billion records world-wide and having recorded over 700 hits. We just had to invite "The King" himself to sing for us.

Residents, family and friends all came together in our ground floor Sherwood lounge to see Elvis or, rather, local fan and impersonator Eddie Vee perform all the familiar hits, much toe tapping and hand clapping followed as everyone sang along to the classics which included: "Love me tender" and "Suspicious minds".

Eddie certainly knew how to entertain, and the time flew by with everyone having enjoyed the afternoon.

New Year's Celebrations!

On New Year's Eve we held a special early evening celebration, where residents, their friends and families all came together to see in the new year in style.

We had a wonderful selection of cheeses and wines as well as snacks.

We started off the evening with a topical quiz which featured highlights from the year and some general knowledge questions before toasting in 2025.
