Activities at Moreton Hill Care Home
Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Jackie Chillingworth
Hello. I am Jackie, the Lead Activity Co-Ordinator at Moreton Hill. I have worked for Barchester for over 10 years. Now, together with my team and the staff at our beautiful home, our aim is to help all residents live life to the best they can by bringing meaningful and enriching activities into their lives.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Moreton Hill Care Home

Blue moons and black mountains
We are fortunate to have two great yoga teachers who come into our home to run regular classes with our residents.
Both Blank and Jarla are professionals in their field with many years of teaching experience. The classes are open to everyone, and are seated and adapted to the abilities of the residents attending.
Although both teachers focus on yoga, their sessions are very different, with Jarla (Black Mountain) being high energy and Blanks (Blue Moon) being more gentle and meditative.
Both lessons give the residents choice and are highly beneficial for mental and physical well-being.

Raising money for charity
Giving to worthwhile causes is a special pleasure for our residents.
At our monthly residents’ meeting we not only plan our activities, but we also talk about local and national events and good causes we want to be linked with and support.
A raffle is a great way to raise money. The most recent one held here at Moreton Hill raised just over £300. Our residents nominated and agreed to support Pets as Therapy, RNLI and Children in Need.
We were able to hand over the money to Gaby from Pets as Therapy, who brings in Ruby to see our residents most Saturdays. Ruby is so small that she can comfortably sit on your lap or snuggle up on a bed. Everyone loves Ruby and Gaby and the joy they bring to our home.

Our Christmas Tree
Putting up the Christmas tree in our Dining Room is always a special time for residents and staff here at Moreton Hill.
The splendid high ceiling room which was once an old barn looks fantastic at Christmas time.
Our Maintenance Team put up all the lights and residents and staff hang the baubles and other decorations on the tree.
We always have our Christmas Carol Service with Standish Church around the tree and on Christmas Day and throughout the festive season it is a focal point for friends and families to gather together with their loved ones at this important time of year.

Christmas Cake
Every year it is a tradition at Moreton Hill to make our own Christmas cake.
We follow a recipe in a Marguerite Patten book that was left to us by a resident, Dorothy, who lived at our home for many years.
The recipe has never let us down and we are hoping that this year will be no exception.
Our residents love doing the mixing and weighing out of the ingredients and then when the cake has been fed for a month or two with sherry we design and decorate the top.
This year we think the result is especially stunning and so have entered the cake into the Barchester Christmas Cake competition.
We don’t know if we will win but we do know for sure that the cake will taste absolutely delicious.

Puss in Boots
We were delighted to welcome the Northeast Production Company to come and perform Puss in Boots for us all this year.
There were lots of jokes and laughter and audience participation.
Colin, our Maintenance Manager was roped in to dress up as the Princess. His acting skills were impressive!
Our residents were totally unaware that it was Colin in the costume but it gave everyone the biggest laugh of the show when he took his wig off and everyone recognised him.
Thank you Northeast Productions for a great performance!

Festive Fayre
We had a wonderful festive fayre at our home involving residents, staff, friends, families and the local community.
On sale were delicious cakes and fabulous crafts, a Christmas hamper for the raffle and Christmas wreaths made by our residents. There were also stalls run by folk from our nearby town of Stonehouse selling goodies to tempt everyone.
From the get go our Reception area was busy with visitors and residents buying gifts and helping out on the stalls.
Everyone had a brilliant day and raised lots of money to go to charities which will be chosen by the residents at their next monthly meeting.
