Activities at Moreton Hill Care Home
Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Hello. I am Jackie, the Lead Activity Co-Ordinator at Moreton Hill. I have worked for Barchester for over 10 years. Now, together with my team and the staff at our beautiful home, our aim is to help all residents live life to the best they can by bringing meaningful and enriching activities into their lives.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

National Yorkshire Pudding Day
Giant Yorkshire puddings were on the menu, especially prepared by Head Chef Stuart and his team to celebrate National Yorkshire pudding day.
Residents were able to choose from a variety of fillings for the puddings, which were declared delicious by everyone.
Making the best Yorkshire pudding apparently all depends on the batter being just right. For optimum results, it should be refrigerated overnight or up to three days and then, when it comes to cooking, the pans need to be smoking hot before the batter is poured in. Our residents gave top marks to Stuart and his team for making the perfect puddings.

In2cultures
We love to try out new activities at Moreton Hill and so when we received a phone call from Liz and Devinder telling us about their multicultural drumming workshop, our residents decided it would be fun to try. The pair brought along a selection of instruments from all around the African continent. Liz explained how the instruments were made and their purpose before giving us all a demonstration.
Devinder, playing the drums, taught everyone the words to some songs sung in Mali and Ghana. It was a fabulous session with our residents learning through enjoyment and participation. We look forward to another visit from In2Cultures in the near future.

A Touch of Magic
It was all a sleight of hand, as, on a gloomy afternoon here in the Cotswolds, magician Rod delighted our residents with a show of magic that had everyone thrilled and asking ‘how did he do that?.’
Rod is a master when it comes to card tricks and mind-bending puzzles, and he was great at getting a lot of audience participation and keeping us all amazed. We can’t wait to get Rod back to show us what more he has up his sleeve!

Out and About
We love to make the most of our minibus and go out on trips. We hope that the worst of the horrible wet and cold weather is now out of the way, and we can enjoy weekly trips out to see the beautiful countryside and places of local interest.
At our monthly Residents’ Meetings we always ask for suggestions for places our residents would like to visit. On the agenda and coming soon, are trips to Bristol Zoo, a canal boat trip, a visit to Gloucester Cathedral and the ever popular trips to Wholly Gelato farm and Winstones ice cream parlour on Minchinhampton Common.
For those residents who cannot enjoy a trip on our bus, we will make sure we get the Winstones ice cream van to come and visit us here at the home.

Fine Dining
Enjoying good food with friends and celebrating special occasions is integral to life at our home. We have a fantastic, spacious dining area for our residents to get together at meal times and our Chef, Stuart, and his team make sure there is plenty of choice on the menu. All dietary needs are catered for and there is always deliciously tempting food on offer.
As well as the main meals, there is always a scrumptious selection of cakes at reception as well as a bowl of healthy fruit, fresh coffee and tea for visitors to tuck into when they pop in to see their loved ones. For birthdays, each resident has a special cake made on the day.
Our latest celebrations included Burns Night when Resident Ambassador, Moira, gave the address to the haggis before everyone had a tasting of haggis, tatties and neeps followed by cranachan and, for some, a wee dram of whiskey! Our lunch was followed at the end of January by a celebration of Chinese New Year. Everyone loved reading out their fortune cookies and finding out about the Year of the Wood Snake.

Mindsong
The wonderful ladies from the charity Mindsong come to Moreton Hill once a month to share their musical skills with our residents.
It is always a great session with many of our residents rediscovering their voices, joining in with many a familiar tune and learning a few new ones.
We are very grateful to the Mindsong group for the time they spend with us and are looking forward to the warmer months when perhaps we will try and do some singing in our beautiful courtyard.
