Activities at Middletown Grange Care Home

We aim to provide a variety of activities that will both mentally and physically stimulate the people we support. Residents have a range of different needs and interests, and it is crucial that these are reflected in the activities available, so that each individual is able to participate to the best of their ability. We organise both group and individual social events that everyone is welcome to take part in; there is a weekly outing to local places of interest, including the garden centre and the local farms, parks and museums. In addition, we enjoy regular visits from entertainers and even exotic animals. We also host events such as 'Beach Day' that relatives and friends are encouraged to participate in. Getting involved in charities is a big part of our ethos, so events such as 'PJs for Pudsey' and pirate-themed days are regularly hosted to raise money for different foundations, including the Alzheimer’s Society.

ZooLab at Middletown

Our staff and residents took time to 'face their fears' courtesy of the ZooLab team who visited our home bringing many different mini-beasts and small creatures; full of legs and slime!

We had a wonderful time learning about all different kinds of animals and insects, their preferred food and their habitats. The snake, giant snail and tortoise were our residents favourites.

Even the tarantula with its hairy legs was (apparently) a delight to hold!

Red Nose Day - Comic Relief

For Red Nose Day - Comic Relief, our wonderful resident; Pat decided to personally decorate the baking clubs homemade cupcakes.

Each smothered in red icing with a smiley face to make her fellow residents and our guests giggle!

Well done Pat... they're simply the best and put a big smile on all our faces.

St Patrick's Day Display

We thought you'd all like to see our residents final St Patrick's Day display... they worked so hard to make it the most vibrant creation, with all the 'luck of the Irish' spilling out!

St Patrick's Day Display

Residents from around the home communities have started working on our St Patrick's Day display. From designing, to cutting out and painting each item. We have green shamrocks and gold coins for the 'pot' at the end of the rainbow!

It's wonderful to see how our activities coordinator; Mel is getting everyone involved, whatever their personal abilities.

We look forward to showcasing the final creation on 17th March when we'll celebrate St Patrick's Day in style.

Christmas Lantern Making

Today, our visiting Christmas elves brought a day full of festive arts and crafts. They assisted our residents to make the most beautiful paper lantern decorations which they painted with brightly coloured sparkling glitters and golden stars. They're going to catch the light beautifully.

Christmas at Blenheim Palace

What a marvellous ‘magical’ day we all had at Blenheim Palace.

We arrived in a convoy of minibuses, staff and residents from Middletown Grange along with 6 further Oxfordshire based Barchester homes all to be treated to a fabulous Christmas event courtesy of Blenheim Palace

The organisers at Blenheim Palace were amazing hosts. Firstly we discovered the story of The Nutcracker re-imagined within the Palace rooms, each one exquisitely transformed and filled with hidden surprises – from the toymaker’s workshop on a frosty Christmas Eve; through the glistening Land of Snow and onto the candy-cane Kingdom of Sweets adorned with the sweetest of treats and larger-than-life gingerbread men. It’s a world where nothing is quite as it seems, from a dashing Nutcracker Prince and an army of mice to a Sugar Plum Fairy and a music box with a difference.

General Manager, Clem Heriman, said: “Today’s Christmas tour has been such a special occasion. Our residents loved being able to experience all that Blenheim Palace has to offer at Christmas, from the beautiful Palace rooms right down to the outdoor Christmas market, we got to take in all the sights. It really has been a wonderful treat for us all.”

The day culminated with a tea party in the prestigious Marlborough Room, with a slice of Christmas chocolate log cake for us all!

We'd like to thank Blenheim Palace for their hospitality and making our day so very special.
