Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home

Two care assistants at Meadowbeck Care Home in Osbaldwick, York have received a prestigious 15 and 10 Years’ Service Award respectively in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare.  Tracy and Gemma, who are both Care assistants on the homes Memory Lane Community, started working at Barchester in January 2008 and December 2012 and have worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.

Team members and residents celebrated ‘Cheese Lovers Day‘ by hosting a cheese and wine evening.

Residents enjoyed trying a selection of tasty cheeses, accompanied with a selection of wines to sample, followed with a fun cheese themed quiz. The smoked cheese and wensleydale with apricot was the most popular of the evening.

The evening was a great success with lots of laughter and great to hear the cheerful chatter.

Today we celebrated International Flower Day in style, a great way in mid-winter to bring joy and happiness into the home.

Our residents got busy with lots of flower arranging using a selection of beautiful flowers, including Alstroemeria, chrysanthemums and Carnations, in various colours, to display in our communal areas around the home, for everyone to enjoy.

Wonderful floral scents filled the air as we reminisced and shared our favourite flowers that we liked to have in our gardens, and tips on arranging flowers.

Flowers help to stimulate our senses of smell, sight and touch, also helps to reduce any feelings of anxiety and stress.

Everyone had a lovely afternoon, doing a blooming marvellous job.

In preparation for ‘Big Garden Bird Watch‘ later this month with RSPB, our residents have been busy making their own fat balls, for our little feathered friends.

Our residents enjoyed a morning of messy fun as they mixed up all the ingredients together before forming them into balls, ready to fill all the bird feeders around our garden. In the afternoon residents from around the home came together to paint and decorate bird feeders to hang around the garden.

We are all looking forward to having our little friends pay us a visit along with the cheeky robin.

To mark the start of the New Year, we celebrated in style as we hosted a special party this evening with fireworks, music and games. Our Chef prepared us a selection of tasty cheeses and savoury nibbles, and as we popped the cork, everyone raised a glass of champagne. Spirits were high as everyone talked about their hopes for the year ahead and we all sang along to some timeless party songs.

Residents at Meadowbeck Care Home in Osbaldwick celebrated International Flower Day which took place on January 19th. International Flower Day promotes the psychological boost that flowers can give to people. From growing and nurturing plants and flowers, to gifting flowers to show love and appreciation, and sometimes just the simple act of admiring their beauty – flowers have the power to make someone’s day. 

Residents took part in flower-based activities throughout the day including a flower arranging afternoon, to display around our home whilst reminiscing about their gardens and their favourite flowers, followed with a flower quiz which everyone really enjoyed.  Their collective knowledge about flowers gained from years of gardening experience was very impressive.
