Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Tina Holmes

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi, I’m Tina, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Meadowbeck.

I began working at the home as a Care Assistant in 1999. In 2014, I changed my role to Social Support Worker, which I enjoyed, as it involved supporting residents at Meadowbeck in their daily lifestyles.

I then became the Activities Coordinator in May 2017. I love working with our residents and getting to know them and their families. In addition to supporting them maintain an active lifestyle I always ensure to personally get to know each resident when they move in with us to support them in the continuation of any hobbies or interests the might have.

Life at Meadowbeck Care Home

Residents enjoy the Kings Coronation

Excitement is in the air at Meadowbeck Care Home in Osbaldwick where residents and staff have been busy making Coronation themed decorations and baking up a storm of red, white and blue cakes in preparation for the King’s Coronation on May 6.

Staff and residents at the home put their heads together and came up with a plan for their celebrations fit for a King. Over the bank holiday weekend the home held an afternoon tea after watching the coronation of the king together in the lounges around the home. On Sunday residents, relatives and friends enjoyed a Royal party with barbecue, raffle and live entertainment with Julieanna.  The whole home came together to celebrate our new King and talk about the new era the country is entering.

The history of Coronations

Across our services Residents had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.

During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.

National Tea Day

We celebrated National Tea Day in style, in recognition of Britain’s most famous drink.

We put together a fantastic tea party, with a tasty selection of sandwiches, pastries, cakes and delicious scones, and of course lots of tea, which went down a treat.

We had the wonderful Les here to entertain us where everyone enjoyed having a sing along together, and it was lovely to see so many families and friends come along and join us for the afternoon.

A tea-rrific time was had by all.

Pamper Time!

Residents recently gathered together at our pamper evening to enjoy a little pamper time with Tina.

The relaxing mood was set as residents enjoyed a pamper with sensory relaxing music and scents using our essential oils diffuser, ladies sat back and relaxed whilst they enjoyed a soothing hand soak with sensory beads and a gentle hand massage,  choosing a nail polish to suit their mood for those who wished.

These are a great way for our residents to come together, enjoying a social evening as they reminisce, chat and laugh together with a glass of their preferred tipple either a glass of wine, gin and tonic or a tot of brandy.

A lovely evening enjoyed by all.

Easter Celebrations

We celebrated Easter with a whole host of egg-cellent themed activities here at Meadowbeck.

Our residents had fun painting eggs, and decorating their Easter bonnets with a selection of flowers, chicks and bunny’s with pastel coloured ribbons, some preferring to keep them simple, less is more they thought.

Team members and residents joined in the fun at our Easter egg hunt around the home, and we had a visit from the little Easter bunny who helped to hand out all the sweet treats and chocolate bunnies to our residents.

We finished off the weekend with a special Easter themed bingo, and word puzzles with refreshments including delicious hot cross buns.

In recognition of the day, our talented chef prepared a delicious feast for all to enjoy, with Easter cakes and treats.

As always, we’ve had an amazing time, we hope you had a hoppy Easter.

Ladies Day at The Grand National

The ladies at our home had a great excuse to put on their elegant clothes and fancy hats in recognition of the Ladies Day at the Grand National, held annually at Aintree Racecourse.

The day is held alongside horse racing, and is famous not only for the action on the course, but the fashion and entertainment of it.

Our ladies enjoyed getting together in their fancy hats, fascinators with flowers in their hair and reminisced on fashion and hats, and what they wore to the races.

The ladies had a great day as a glass of pink fizz or two was greatly appreciated.
