Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Tina Holmes

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi, I’m Tina, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Meadowbeck.

I began working at the home as a Care Assistant in 1999. In 2014, I changed my role to Social Support Worker, which I enjoyed, as it involved supporting residents at Meadowbeck in their daily lifestyles.

I then became the Activities Coordinator in May 2017. I love working with our residents and getting to know them and their families. In addition to supporting them maintain an active lifestyle I always ensure to personally get to know each resident when they move in with us to support them in the continuation of any hobbies or interests the might have.

Life at Meadowbeck Care Home

Birthday celebrations

Celebrations have been in full swing at Meadowbeck Care Home, as one of its residents celebrated her 90 years young birthday in style.  Resident Eileen, was joined by her family, friends, staff and other residents, to help celebrate her special day with her, the room was decorated with banners and balloons.

There was plenty of prosecco with a delicious cake that her daughter had specially made for the momentous occasion, with a selection of party food and nibbles prepared by the homes hospitality team for all the guests to enjoy.

To make the day extra special we were entertained by “Lucy’s Pop Choir”, which Eileen’s daughter, Angela along with another family members of the home perform in – they sung a medley of pop hits, a firm favourite of the birthday girl before ending the performance with a rousing rendition of “Happy birthday”.

Meet Ted our new four legged furry friend!

Residents and team members were delighted to welcome Hilary and her Pat dog Ted, today was Ted’s first visit in to our home, and he certainly brought a smile to everyone’s faces, he made our residents day.

Ted is a 5 year old springer spaniel, and what a handsome boy he is, he is so well behaved, very gentle and he waits patiently at each door before he is invited in.

Ted has made lots of new friends here at Meadowbeck, where our lovely residents are only too happy to give him a big fuss and a treat or two.

A big Thank you to Hilary and Ted for spending the afternoon with us, we are looking forward to your next visit.

Ted brought back lots of fond memories to our residents, as they shared stories of their beloved pets they owned.

Musical Moments

Residents from around the home were delighted to see the wonderful Maggie back with us for our Valentines theme Musical Moments session.

These music sessions are packed full of fun with lots of movement to music using a selection of sensory props, and residents played the ukulele, we had lots of singing and dancing, learning new moves, with shakers shaking, and scarves swaying from side to side and up in the air.

Maggie visits our residents every month, and the session is always a big hit, everyone is always so pleased to see her.

A visit to the garden centre

This morning we wrapped up warm and enjoyed a scenic drive to Deans garden centre in our mini bus.

We had a lovely walk around in the shop admiring all the plants and flowers, Whilst Mary was more impressed taking in all the beautiful colours of the flowers, David had his eye on the many varieties of old fashioned sweets, coming away with his all-time favourite liquorice allsorts.

Before leaving, we stopped off in the lovely coffee shop, choosing from a selection of speciality coffees and delicious homemade cakes.

Mary thoroughly enjoyed her lemon and coconut cake, David couldn’t get over the size of his cherry scone, both went down a treat.

A wonderful morning was had by all.

Residents and team members celebrated Valentine’s Day in style by hosting a special afternoon tea, with live entertainment, and lots of sweet treats and refreshments on offer.

We welcomed Nigel back as he entertained everyone singing a range of popular hits and love songs, which everyone sang and danced along to.

Love was certainly in the air, and residents were made to feel special.

Residents get cheesy for National Pizza Day

National Pizza Day has been a real treat at Meadowbeck Care Home in Osbaldwick, where staff and residents marked the occasion by getting out their aprons and kneading the dough to make home-made pizzas for the occasion.

The week, organised by Foodism Magazine, is a celebration of all things pizza-related, and is the perfect excuse to get everybody together for a pizza topping party.

Many residents at Meadowbeck personalised their own pizzas with a selection of healthy, tasty treats, including the traditional cheese and tomato, pepperoni and Hawaiian ham and pineapple, with extra toppings of mushrooms, onion and peppers to help create that colour.
