Activities at Marple Dale Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lewis Timperley

Activities Team Lead

Hi, my name is Lewis. I joined the team in September 2021 as a general assistant and then moved to the activities team in January 2022. Most recently I became Activities Team Leader in December 2023, it has been a great journey here at Marple Dale and can’t wait to continue. I love my role as one of the homes Activity Coordinators, and love finding out new and exciting ways to engage residents with activities and each other.

Here at Marple Dale we try to do as many different activities as we can, to keep our residents as active as possible, as it is so important to keep active. I love what I do and love knowing that our residents have so much enjoyment from such a wide variety of activities.

Chocolate and Fruit

On Friday 20th October some residents approached the deputy manager to say there wasn’t much interest in the planned Oomph session and could they have a face to face activity instead.

They suggested a repeat of the activity that took place on World Chocolate Day and how much they loved it.

The Deputy Manager acted quickly to meet the request and put together an interactive quiz, platters of fruit, small cakes, chocolates and treats for the residents to enjoy.

The session ran for 2.5 hours and with teams of mixed ability and knowledge, some good friendships were formed and many many laughs were had.

The final scores were too close tell who had really won, so all were declared winners with the prize……...???

Another afternoon of chocolate and fruit on Monday 23rd of course.  This time there were more residents.  All dietary needs were accommodated too including a glass of wine or two.

Autumnal Crafting

We have been embracing the autumn and coming winter months at Marple Dale by doing some crafting.  We have had a number of sessions where all are welcome to come along and try out some new skills.

Moira, Theresa , Sarah, Sharon and Kerry sat together helping each other out making some Halloween Decorations for our party and some Autumn Maple Leaf flowers for the vases in the Activity Lounge.

These activities brought together mixed ages and abilities of Marple residents.

Some have use of only 1 hand, and you could really see them supporting each other to do the best crafting they could.

To take the time to carefully and accurately glue, with hot glue guns was a great achievement and the end results are displayed in our Activities Lounge.

We can’t wait to do some more crafty things for our Christmas displays and a local church Christmas Tree Decoration Competition.

A day full of luck

Trip to Southport Botanical Gardens.

Theresa, one of our Marple Dale residents asked to go on a day trip to the Southport Botanical, to bring back some fond memories and fun form her earlier years.

We made the best of a beautiful day’s weather and the Fish and Chip Shop we found close by.  The staff there were brilliant and couldn’t do enough for us.

John, Theresa, Lynn and Sarah enjoyed the best chippy meal they have had in a long time!

At the gardens we engaged with other visitors, who shared some bread with us so we could feed the ducks, swans, geese and pigeons.  The bird keeper in the aviary brought over one of the parrots so we could get a closer look, and John made a new doggy friend.

All this topped off with drinks and ice cream in the cafe.  A great day out had by all.

Marple Dale Residents “Sock it to ‘em!”

Oomph Move With Stephan

At Maple Dale we love the Move with Stephan Session on Oomph TV. We enjoy getting moving and keeping in shape!

A regular attendee is our lovely Beryl, who really admires her big brother. He stands by the saying 'if you don't move it you lose it’. Beryl has always exercised and the sessions help her to continue, giving her something to talk to her brother during their visits.

Kerry also regularly visits the session. She is building up strength with physiotherapy and Oomph to use her new walker. Her physiotherapists have commented that she is doing well and this extra exercise really helps.

We always make sure we don’t overdo it and that we have plenty of drinks to hand to keep hydrated.

We send Stephan live chat messages too, we all think he does a great job and really wakes us up on a Tuesday morning!

Raising the roof with Crystal Chord Choir

Last week at Marple Dale we were joined by our new choir that attended Marple Dale for the first time. They are called the Crystal Chord Choir, they sang classic tunes and we will definitely be having them back soon!  It was a wonderful afternoon.

Baking for Macmillan Coffee Morning

We had so much fun on Thursday at Marple preparing Rocky Road cakes for the 'Worlds largest coffee morning' Our residents really enjoyed being involved in preparing and raising money for Macmillan cancer support.  The cakes were delicious too!
