Activities at Mallard Court Care Home

We provide a wide range of group activities and individual one to one activities to meet our residents needs including musical entertainers, PAT dog visits, minibus outings, themed events and much more!

We take a person centred approach when planning each individuals activities so they can achieve a feeling of self worth and well-being.

We hold monthly meetings with the residents and also regular meetings with their family and friends, discussing any ideas that they may have, and also any problems that their may have. Both of our activities coordinators, Steve and Lynne, have completed NAPA Activity Workers Level 2 Award training, and are continually seeking new ideas so we can ensure life in the home is as varied and interesting as possible. We encourage strong community links with the local schools, colleges and local charities in the community. Steve is supported also by his dogs, Tia, Pebbles and Oscar who give great pleasure to the residents in our home, and can often be seen either on a persons lap or being taken for a walk around the home. Many of the visitors that come into Mallard Court commented that it is so friendly and welcoming.

Steve Moss

Lifestyle Coordinator

Hi, my name is Steve, and I have been a Lifestyle Coordinator at Mallard Court since 2006, and have achieved the NAPA (National Association of Activity Providers) Level 2 Award in Activity Provision in the Care Sector.

We provide a wide range of activities for the people we support, as well as for their families and friends. I also love to have one-to-one chats with residents who like to reminisce about their lives over a cup of tea and some biscuits.

We have our own minibus and have fun days out sight-seeing, having a picnic or going a local pub for a drink and a meal. We also arrange for local artists to provide musical entertainment for everyone at Mallard Court.

Life at Mallard Court Care Home

Driffield Middle 8 Singers and PSP

Driffield Middle 8 Singers and PSP

This year, the Driffield Middle 8 Singers have been raising money for a charity that is close to their hearts - The Marie Curie Nurses.

Margaret Grant is a resident living at Mallard Court and she is a former singer with the group, and Margaret is one of the handful of people in The East Riding that has been diagnosed with the condition known as PSP. It is a terminal disease with no known cause or cure, so money is needed for research.

Her husband, Peter, is a singer with Middle 8, and the group have agreed that all money raised this year will be donated to the charity. The total raised by donations so far is nearing £1,000.

There is a PSP support group that holds monthly meetings at Burnby Hall, Pocklington, and Granddaughter, Sarah, has just run her first half marathon, raising £900 to support those who attend these meetings and their carers.

The singers have dedicated one of their songs to those living with PSP.

Horse Play at Mallard Court

Horse Play at Mallard Court

Residents enjoyed a surprise visit from some miniature horses. Skippa, Buck and Bubbles were accompanied by their owner, Karen Hamilton-Smith, who gave an informed talk here at the home. Karen is an international American horse judge and has travelled all over the world doing what she loves. Residents were thrilled to meet Karen and her horses – it was a real treat for them – and the horses loved being petted as well.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Macmillan Coffee Morning

We spent the week at Mallard Court decorating cakes and eating them - what a chore! We also hosted a coffee morning with musical duet, Dark Moon, entertaining us. We had a cake stall, with everyone contributing, and held a raffle too. In total, managed to raise £105 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Friendship Day at Mallard Court

Friendship Day at Mallard Court

We celebrated Friendship Day at Mallard Court with wine, beer and nibbles in the garden and enjoyed spending time in the sun, reminiscing about old and existing friends. We were also visited by PAT-friendly dog, Tiah. We took 5 residents to collect Tiah from the Kennels when she was just 8 weeks old, and she is a regular and popular guest at Mallard Court.

Another 10 Years of Service

Another 10 Years of Service

Activities Coordinator, Steve Moss, reached his 10 years of service on 3rd July. Steve had his lunch with the residents and enjoyed a full waitress service. But, being Steve, he was soon doing what he does best - looking after the residents. Well done, Steve!

Care Home Open Day at Mallard Court

Care Home Open Day at Mallard Court

The following pictures are from our Care Home Open Day, which was supported by the local Bridlington community and enjoyed by everyone. It was a fantastic day with cakes and buns for sale to raise money for MND. A resident's son played the clarinet as everyone arrived, which evoked so many memories and so many tears. A magician came in to entertain both the young and the old alike, and we also enjoyed a dog show.
