Activities at Mallard Court Care Home

We provide a wide range of group activities and individual one to one activities to meet our residents needs including musical entertainers, PAT dog visits, minibus outings, themed events and much more!

We take a person centred approach when planning each individuals activities so they can achieve a feeling of self worth and well-being.

We hold monthly meetings with the residents and also regular meetings with their family and friends, discussing any ideas that they may have, and also any problems that their may have. Both of our activities coordinators, Steve and Lynne, have completed NAPA Activity Workers Level 2 Award training, and are continually seeking new ideas so we can ensure life in the home is as varied and interesting as possible. We encourage strong community links with the local schools, colleges and local charities in the community. Steve is supported also by his dogs, Tia, Pebbles and Oscar who give great pleasure to the residents in our home, and can often be seen either on a persons lap or being taken for a walk around the home. Many of the visitors that come into Mallard Court commented that it is so friendly and welcoming.

Steve Moss

Lifestyle Coordinator

Hi, my name is Steve, and I have been a Lifestyle Coordinator at Mallard Court since 2006, and have achieved the NAPA (National Association of Activity Providers) Level 2 Award in Activity Provision in the Care Sector.

We provide a wide range of activities for the people we support, as well as for their families and friends. I also love to have one-to-one chats with residents who like to reminisce about their lives over a cup of tea and some biscuits.

We have our own minibus and have fun days out sight-seeing, having a picnic or going a local pub for a drink and a meal. We also arrange for local artists to provide musical entertainment for everyone at Mallard Court.

Birthday celebrations

Christine celebrated her 81st birthday last week, with friends and staff here at Mallard Court.  She enjoyed a delicious cake prepared by our head chef.  It was lovely to hear Christine chatting to her daughter who lives in Australia.

Both Christine and her husband Ray have been the mayor of Bridlington in years gone by and we're both very active members of the local community.

Crystal Palace Chronicles

We had a lovely time joining Graham Whitlock for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘The Crystal Palace Chronicles: Star of Nimrod’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fictional character Joe, who went on a rollercoaster adventure travelling back in time to the heyday of Victorian Crystal Palace.

Everyone had lots of fun during the virtual talk, as Graham took them on a clever and hilarious adventure. A great time was had by all.

A splash of colour

Mallard Courts residents and staff enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon with a variety of vegetables and brightly coloured paint!  This activity was both sensory with everyone chatting away about our favourite vegetables (or not in some case!) as we used the vegetables to create our brightly coloured masterpieces.   We also had a variety of traditional sweets to accompany us and reminisced about all the delicious treats we have enjoyed over the years.

Jubilee blooms

Mallard Courts Queens Platinum Jubilee Garden preparations are underway and we have sourced some lovely flowers and shrubs to go into the pots and flower beds. Residents will be helping us plant them out in their garden with family and friends.  The main colour scheme is going to be predominantly Red , White and Blue floral displays, a Memory Tree with solar lights  and a Green Laser light show at night.  Our Millennium Tube was destroyed accidentally  when we had some ground work done so we are looking at making a new Memory Tube for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.  Everyone is getting involved and sharing ideas and really looking forward to celebrating the Queen’s birthday in style.

International Firefighters Day

Mallard Court residents and staff celebrated "international firefighters day" We took some delicious treats to our local Bridlington firefighters.  Off we went on our minibus, purchased the goodies and delivered in person, the treats and a card, to thank them for the wonderful service they provide to our local community.

They were so welcoming and friendly and thanked the residents for the kind gesture. Next we went to the harbour, to sample a few of the many flavours of ice cream from "Ice Delights", whilst admiring the view out to sea.

Pebbles, our beautiful dog, met a couple of new canine friends - Trixie and Rafiki.

We are looking forward to our next adventure on the minibus.

Cinco De Mayo

Residents and staff celebrated a Mexican anniversary of the Mexican day ‘Cinco De Mayo’ as it marks the day in 1862, when President Benito Juarez sent troops to face the invading French army that was marching towards Mexico City.

It is celebrated with parades, battle re-enactments, mariachi music , traditional foods, piñatas and fireworks.  It is a day to celebrate freedom and liberty. We had a fabulous afternoon with delightful Mexican music, viewing beautiful pictures of this interesting country, a bit of colourful dressing up and sampling the delicious dishes and Mocktails which our homes hospitality team especially prepared.
