Activities at Mallard Court Care Home

We provide a wide range of group activities and individual one to one activities to meet our residents needs including musical entertainers, PAT dog visits, minibus outings, themed events and much more!

We take a person centred approach when planning each individuals activities so they can achieve a feeling of self worth and well-being.

We hold monthly meetings with the residents and also regular meetings with their family and friends, discussing any ideas that they may have, and also any problems that their may have. Both of our activities coordinators, Steve and Lynne, have completed NAPA Activity Workers Level 2 Award training, and are continually seeking new ideas so we can ensure life in the home is as varied and interesting as possible. We encourage strong community links with the local schools, colleges and local charities in the community. Steve is supported also by his dogs, Tia, Pebbles and Oscar who give great pleasure to the residents in our home, and can often be seen either on a persons lap or being taken for a walk around the home. Many of the visitors that come into Mallard Court commented that it is so friendly and welcoming.

Steve Moss

Lifestyle Coordinator

Hi, my name is Steve, and I have been a Lifestyle Coordinator at Mallard Court since 2006, and have achieved the NAPA (National Association of Activity Providers) Level 2 Award in Activity Provision in the Care Sector.

We provide a wide range of activities for the people we support, as well as for their families and friends. I also love to have one-to-one chats with residents who like to reminisce about their lives over a cup of tea and some biscuits.

We have our own minibus and have fun days out sight-seeing, having a picnic or going a local pub for a drink and a meal. We also arrange for local artists to provide musical entertainment for everyone at Mallard Court.

Life at Mallard Court Care Home

Ferndown florist demo

Our homes had a lovely time joining Sue and Nicole from Ferndown Florist for an intriguing flower arrangement workshop in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Our residents enjoyed a wonderful virtual demonstration and got inspired to create their own flower posies for our Jubilee displays.  Our home will be specially decorated for the upcoming festivities. Stay tuned.

Flower power

We are celebrating the Chelsea Flower Show.  Our residents had a lovely time doing their own flower arrangements and displays, discussing the many vibrant colours of the flowers and spending time in our garden.

Resident, Norman and his daughter, Jules created beautiful flower arrangements together which are now proudly displayed in the home.

Some preferred to watch the Chelsea Flower Show in the lounge, whilst other enjoyed various gardening activates.

We also took the time to learn more about the importance of bees and the role they play in pollinating. We had a lovely time watching the Chelsea Flower Show, we all thought they looked wonderful.

Birthday celebrations

Christine celebrated her 81st birthday last week, with friends and staff here at Mallard Court.  She enjoyed a delicious cake prepared by our head chef.  It was lovely to hear Christine chatting to her daughter who lives in Australia.

Both Christine and her husband Ray have been the mayor of Bridlington in years gone by and we're both very active members of the local community.

Crystal Palace Chronicles

We had a lovely time joining Graham Whitlock for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘The Crystal Palace Chronicles: Star of Nimrod’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fictional character Joe, who went on a rollercoaster adventure travelling back in time to the heyday of Victorian Crystal Palace.

Everyone had lots of fun during the virtual talk, as Graham took them on a clever and hilarious adventure. A great time was had by all.

A splash of colour

Mallard Courts residents and staff enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon with a variety of vegetables and brightly coloured paint!  This activity was both sensory with everyone chatting away about our favourite vegetables (or not in some case!) as we used the vegetables to create our brightly coloured masterpieces.   We also had a variety of traditional sweets to accompany us and reminisced about all the delicious treats we have enjoyed over the years.

Jubilee blooms

Mallard Courts Queens Platinum Jubilee Garden preparations are underway and we have sourced some lovely flowers and shrubs to go into the pots and flower beds. Residents will be helping us plant them out in their garden with family and friends.  The main colour scheme is going to be predominantly Red , White and Blue floral displays, a Memory Tree with solar lights  and a Green Laser light show at night.  Our Millennium Tube was destroyed accidentally  when we had some ground work done so we are looking at making a new Memory Tube for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.  Everyone is getting involved and sharing ideas and really looking forward to celebrating the Queen’s birthday in style.
