Activities at Mallard Court Care Home

We provide a wide range of group activities and individual one to one activities to meet our residents needs including musical entertainers, PAT dog visits, minibus outings, themed events and much more!

We take a person centred approach when planning each individuals activities so they can achieve a feeling of self worth and well-being.

We hold monthly meetings with the residents and also regular meetings with their family and friends, discussing any ideas that they may have, and also any problems that their may have. Both of our activities coordinators, Steve and Lynne, have completed NAPA Activity Workers Level 2 Award training, and are continually seeking new ideas so we can ensure life in the home is as varied and interesting as possible. We encourage strong community links with the local schools, colleges and local charities in the community. Steve is supported also by his dogs, Tia, Pebbles and Oscar who give great pleasure to the residents in our home, and can often be seen either on a persons lap or being taken for a walk around the home. Many of the visitors that come into Mallard Court commented that it is so friendly and welcoming.

Steve Moss

Lifestyle Coordinator

Hi, my name is Steve, and I have been a Lifestyle Coordinator at Mallard Court since 2006, and have achieved the NAPA (National Association of Activity Providers) Level 2 Award in Activity Provision in the Care Sector.

We provide a wide range of activities for the people we support, as well as for their families and friends. I also love to have one-to-one chats with residents who like to reminisce about their lives over a cup of tea and some biscuits.

We have our own minibus and have fun days out sight-seeing, having a picnic or going a local pub for a drink and a meal. We also arrange for local artists to provide musical entertainment for everyone at Mallard Court.

Birthday Celebrations

Birthday Celebrations

Betty celebrated her birthday on the ‘glorious 12th’, as she fondly refers to it, so we can never forget the date!   orn in 1922, Betty formerly lived in Chapletown, before moving closer to family.

Betty worked for Newton Chambers at High Green during the war, has also worked for Halls & Pickles engineering factory in Ecclesfield and as barmaid at Chapeltown Working Mens Club.

Betty married her beloved late husband, Fred, who was a musician, where they toured the clubs and featured on the radio station,'Worker's Playtime’.

Betty loves reading anything, especially love stories like Mills and Boon. Betty also loves music, singing and dancing, and her favourite song is ,Que Sera, by Doris Day.

She has always lived by the motto, 'the most important thing in life is good manners; being respectful to others and in return gaining the respect of others'.

The home held a surprised birthday party for Betty, her friends and family, where staff presented the birthday girl with a huge cake in her honour.

Mexico Comes to Bridlington

Mexico Comes to Bridlington

Residents and staff at Mallard Court had a brilliant time at their Mexican evening. It was full of delicious Mexican cuisine, with entertaining mariachi band-style music in the background. Residents decided on the Mexican-themed tasting menu and, while some were a little nervous about trying new food, everyone really enjoyed themselves. It was a really fun evening and we are already planning our next event.

Sewerby Women Institute

Sewerby Women Institute

Residents of Mallard Court received a selection of colourful fiddle mats, which have been made by the local Sewerby Women’s’ Institute to enhance the day-to-day life of the residents.

The ‘fiddle mats’ are designed and developed to provide simple stimulation for the hands, whilst promoting increased flexibility and brain stimulation.

Residents living with dementia find the fiddle-mats reassuring and comforting. Mallard Court also welcomed Councillor Mike Heslop – Mullens who was a guest on the day.

The Magic Table

The Magic Table

Friends of Mallard Court have successfully raised funds to purchase an Omii Vista Interactive Sensory Table for our home. Mallard Court offers complex dementia services, and this 'magic table' has made a big impact on residents, and has greatly enhanced their care and provided additional stimulation.
