Activities at Mallard Court Care Home

We provide a wide range of group activities and individual one to one activities to meet our residents needs including musical entertainers, PAT dog visits, minibus outings, themed events and much more!

We take a person centred approach when planning each individuals activities so they can achieve a feeling of self worth and well-being.

We hold monthly meetings with the residents and also regular meetings with their family and friends, discussing any ideas that they may have, and also any problems that their may have. Both of our activities coordinators, Steve and Lynne, have completed NAPA Activity Workers Level 2 Award training, and are continually seeking new ideas so we can ensure life in the home is as varied and interesting as possible. We encourage strong community links with the local schools, colleges and local charities in the community. Steve is supported also by his dogs, Tia, Pebbles and Oscar who give great pleasure to the residents in our home, and can often be seen either on a persons lap or being taken for a walk around the home. Many of the visitors that come into Mallard Court commented that it is so friendly and welcoming.

Steve Moss

Lifestyle Coordinator

Hi, my name is Steve, and I have been a Lifestyle Coordinator at Mallard Court since 2006, and have achieved the NAPA (National Association of Activity Providers) Level 2 Award in Activity Provision in the Care Sector.

We provide a wide range of activities for the people we support, as well as for their families and friends. I also love to have one-to-one chats with residents who like to reminisce about their lives over a cup of tea and some biscuits.

We have our own minibus and have fun days out sight-seeing, having a picnic or going a local pub for a drink and a meal. We also arrange for local artists to provide musical entertainment for everyone at Mallard Court.

International Flower Day

Residents at Mallard Court celebrated International Flower Day which took place on 21st January.  International Flower Day promotes the psychological boost that flowers can give to people. From growing and nurturing plants and flowers, to gifting flowers to show love and appreciation, and sometimes just the simple act of admiring their beauty – flowers have the power to make someone’s day.

Ray at resident at the home commented, “how much he had enjoyed the day as it had brought back many fond memories of spending time in his own garden, pruning his beloved roses”

Staying in touch

Residents at Mallard Court have been hard at work creating cards to send to their loved ones as a surprise during the festive period. They have also been making use of skype and facetime so that they can video call their relatives – although some weren’t too sure about the new technology at the start of the pandemic but now thoroughly enjoy the many new ways of keeping in touch with their loved ones!

A fond farewell as resident returns home

Residents and staff at Mallard Court said a fond farewell to popular resident Neil as he returned home to rejoin his family at the Expanse hotel in Bridlington for Christmas after residing at the home since July 2019.  Neil was a much loved character at the home and will be missed greatly but the team are delighted that he has been able to return home and wish both Neil and his family a very happy Christmas.

Baking Club

Residents from Mallard Court enjoyed an afternoon of cup cake decorating as part of their baking club, which took them back to their younger years.  Baking sessions are a popular activity for the home and the activity had taste buds tingling.

The homes activities coordinator, said: “The residents enjoyed getting creative with their decorations as it not only brings back memories of their childhood, but also times when they’ve baked with their own children and grandchildren. Once all the cakes were decorated, we all enjoyed sitting down with a cup of tea and a home-made cake.”

Santa Claus pays visit on Christmas Day

Barchester’s Mallard Court got in the Christmas spirit on Christmas day as they welcomed a very special visitor, Santa Claus and his Elves who delivered presents to everyone before being overshadowed by General Manager, Dianne Peters jack Russell, Chalky who joined in the fun. Residents enjoyed a feast of festive foods prepared by the home’s hospitality team.

General Manager, Dianne Peters said: “We’ve had a year like no other so we wanted to really spoil our residents and give them an extra special treat.  We’ve all had such fun letting our hair down today, and it is clear that everyone really enjoyed the day.”
