Activities at Lydfords Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Afternoon At The Opera

Residents and guests at Lydfords Care Home in East Hoathly enjoyed an afternoon of sophistication with a live operatic performance that took place at the home. Local opera singer, Thomasin Trezise performed a selection of famous musicals numbers in the garden.

The hospitality team at the home provided welcome drinks and canapes at the start for everyone that attended. Guests brought along picnics to enjoy during the performance. After the interval Thomasin was joined by Steve the squeeze who played the accordion and together they performed some wonderful Nepali pieces.

General Manager, Rikki said, “Our residents and guests had a wonderful afternoon listening to Thomasin sing, her voice was breath taking and everyone was captivated by it. We do our best to provide a wide range of activities and entertainment at Lydfords as part of the lifestyle enrichment programme for residents, and this was one was one of our favourites.”

Keeping Fit And Healthy. Mind, Body and Soul

It's important to keep fit, for body, mind and soul. A snapshot of two exercises classes that we have weekly. Seated yoga in our wonderful gardens and some funky movement to music.

Lots of participants who really enjoyed the classes, both for movement and for social interactions.

Watercolour Workshop

We have partnered up with Adult College for Rural East Sussex to create these amazing bespoke workshops and the first one took place on Wednesday.

Faye a tutor from ACRES ran the Watercolour workshop. The theme was around watercolour techniques and landscape painting. The participants were shown new techniques in painting trees and how to make them look them more realistic. They tried painting with natural brushes including thistles and lavender. By the end of the day each person had produced five pieces of artwork to keep.

The workshop took place outside in the homes garden pavilion, which helped to create a very relaxing day and the beautiful scenery helped inspire everyone.

At Lydfords we understand the importance of being able to continue enjoying lifelong passions as well as trying new things. We have worked very closely with Emma from ACRES who has worked very hard and put together a variety of workshops and courses for our residents and the local community to be able to do together.

It was such a lovely day seeing everyone really enjoying themselves and producing some lovely pieces of artwork that they get to cherish.

Tasty Pub Lunch At The Kings Head

Today was a trip to a lovely country pub for lunch. Residents went to the Kings Head Horsebridge and had a great time dining out with a glass of their favourite beverage and a delicious meal.

There are already discussions happening about when they will be returning.

Our Activities Coordinator goes above and beyond when it comes to organising trips. Sue will always ask the residents where they would like to visit and will make it happen.

Afternoon Tea At Eastbourne Pier

Residents went on a trip to Eastbourne beach. They enjoyed a walk along the seafront and then onto the pier. The Sun was shining and the sea air refreshing.

You can’t go on the pier with stopping at the Victorian Tea Rooms. It was lovely sitting under the chandelier and sampling their delights.

There’s something about a trip to the beach that makes you smile and everyone came back having had a wonderful time.

Holy Communion With Father James Vine

Father James Vine of East Hoathly Church gave his first Communion here at Lydfords.
It was a great success and our residents thought it was a lovely service.
Father James will be coming once a month. Residents are able to join him in the lounge for hymns, listen to readings and take communion if they wish.
