Activities at Lydfords Care Home

Gardeners in full swing yesterday, they even had time for a cheeky tea break.

We enjoyed this autumn heatwave and seized the opportunity to prep the beds for winter. And work on our winter boxes.

Peter recently celebrated his 93rd Birthday at Lydfords. Peter had a big party with his family in our Garden Pavilion. There were 20 people in total and four different generations including his 90 year old sister and the apple of Papa Pete’s eye, Ruby his great grandchild. 
Everyone had a wonderful afternoon and it really was a special birthday for Peter. 

It is so lovely to hear back from the family and we received a heart-warming message from Peters daughter Lynda. 

"Just wanted to  say another big thank you to you and all the staff, Dad is really happy and the loneliness that he had has just vanished. You all look after him so well.
Bravo to Lydfords 
Thanks again."

Residents at Lydfords care home in East Hoathly enjoyed a morning of fresh air and scenery at Walk the chalk festival. 

Joined by Christina, their personal tour guide. Residents were driven from South Hill Barn in the buggy and saw several pieces of artwork as well as the beautiful coastal line. Christina was very informative and spoke about how the flags represented the local forna. Upon return from the coast guard cottages everyone stopped for refreshments. 

General Manger at Lydfords care home, said: “The trip to walk the chalk was an amazing experience for our residents. It is so lovely they were able to see views and access the countryside that is not usually possible. We are very grateful to Christina and the team who came along especially to give them this opportunity.”

Here at Lydfords we had an amazing musical afternoon with a visit from the Glyndebourne Good Company. It was an immersive afternoon of learning about the different musical instruments from the Cello to Clarinet and the amazing voice of one of Glyndebourne's own Operatic singers.

Residents joined in and played their own instruments to the music. There were smiles, laughter and a wonderful happy atmosphere all around. Afterwards the Good Company joined us all for tea and cake. It gave everyone a chance to talk in person and learn more.

Emma Lee a qualified florist and ACRES tutor ran the eco-friendly, foam free flower arranging workshop. 

Emma demonstrated how to condition the flowers properly, followed by three different arrangements. The first was presented in a tea cup and used eco-friendly foam, followed by a modern and effective sunflower piece and finally a front facing arrangement using wire. At the end of the session they all enjoyed complimentary afternoon tea courtesy of Lydfords and their Chef.

June, resident said: “I used to arrange the flowers for my local community events. It has been such a lovely afternoon in the garden working with the flowers again. It all came flooding back to me about the conditioning and I really enjoyed using some new techniques. We all had such a laugh and it was lovely to make some new friends. I have my arrangements in my room so I can admire them.”

One of our residents read about the new exhibition at Beachy Head, titled The Beachy Head Story. Showcasing some wonderful discoveries and artefacts from as far back as 1690.

So off we went today to take a look ourselves, we had such an interesting morning and the views were spectacular.
