Activities at Iddenshall Hall Care Home

Activities here at Iddenshall Hall are an integral part of every day life for each of our residents. We strive to include as many of our residents as possible with the activities schedule. Our Schedule is released monthly and includes activities such as poetry afternoons, indoor games, Bingo, flower arranging, pamper days, quizzes, exercises, various musicians and entertainers, Pat Dog Visits, Music Therapy, discussion groups and trips out in our minibus to local places of interest and further afield to see the Blackpool Lights or to Knowsley Safari Park.

We are constantly asking the people who live in our home which events they would like to see taking place and we endeavor to fulfill these requests. Our aim is to provide a varied and packed schedule which allows for a vast array of skill bases and capabilities. We are in constant contact with local groups and businesses, the local Beaver Scout group are always happy to pay a visit to our home, helping with the garden or coming at Christmas to sing carols for us. We also have a small group of volunteers to help us, including pupils from our local 6th form College who visit once a week.

All the above helps ensure the lives of our Residents are fun and fulfilled.

Hi there, I'm Luisa, Activities Co-ordinator at Iddenshall Hall & Beeston View.

I have worked with the elderly over 8 years and also for fifteen years in the social field as an Activities Coordinator for different social groups in three countries. I have a Degree in Social Integration, a Certificate in Theatrical Psychology and a Music Therapy certificate. In the past I have worked for local authorities and in a cerebral palsy home.

My work is very rewarding and it is a pleasure planning events and activities each month. I enjoy interacting with Residents and learning about their interests, preferences and experiences.

Life at Iddenshall Hall Care Home

National Picnic Day

It was a spectacular picnic day where everyone enjoyed eating outdoors listening to the birds, the freshness and the good atmosphere. At the end, everyone wanted to leave their text about how wonderful this moment was.

Celebrating British Flower week

The residents really enjoyed this week with the flowers and plants and especially making flower arrangements to beautify our garden area and also to stimulate our creativity with the colours we chose. Some of the plants we used were Fuchsia, Celosia, geranium, etc.

Historic Hendon

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Rhiannon Watkinson from the RAF Museum London for an interactive talk exploring the exciting and innovative aviation history of Hendon.

Our residents were able to learn about the first flights from the fields at Hendon, the creation of the London Aerodrome and Battle of Britain pilots who flew from RAF Hendon.

The talk also included photographic and film material from the Museum’s archive. Residents across our homes had a fantastic time and we truly enjoyed the virtual experience.

National Cheese Day

We had a great celebration in the garden for Cheese Day complemented by the taste of a glass of wine with 3 option,  crackers and olives, plus socialising, music and singing. Everyone had a happy time and the day was great, then no one wanted to go in, because it was really good and wonderful celebration. There were even ladies who came especially to enjoy this event.

Musical therapy

The residents enjoyed a musical therapy session that filled the atmosphere with joy and each one surrendered to their musical senses by playing an instrument and combining these with a hum of rhythms and part of songs. We used our musical instrument box and each one chose an instrument that they later exchanged for another and the music really flowed on its own.

Creating Hanging Baskets

We had a wonderful time creating our hanging baskets for the front of the home. We chose colourful and fragrant plants like fuchsia, petunias and lobelias. We learned how to line the baskets with moss, fill them with compost and water them regularly. We also enjoyed chatting with each other and admiring our handiwork. Our hanging baskets are a source of joy and pride for us.
