Activities at Flowerdown Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Kate Harfield

Activities Coordinator

Hello My Name is Kate Harfield I have been at Flowerdown care Home for about a year now as the activity coordinator I really enjoy my role meeting the residents and families on a daily basis.

I have worked in all aspects of care from being a carer who supports people in their own homes to working with people who have learning disabilities.

I do have a busy family life with my husband, daughter and our dog Patch- we also have PAT dogs that come into our home which both I and the residents really enjoy.

I also enjoy taking people outside in our lovely garden as I feel that being in nature really helps to improved wellbeing as I also enjoy walking my dog every morning.

Beat the Heat

Residents at Flowerdown Care Home are enjoying refreshing drinks curated to help beat the heat during the predicted adverse weather condition. Today we're having the classic Pimm's Cup concocted in front of our residents to make it interactive and fun! For everyone wondering what's in the drink, the ingredients are: Pimm's No.1, lemonade, mint, strawberries and cucumber.

National Ice Cream Day

Perfectly timed in the middle of a heatwave, staff and residents at Flowerdown Care Home had a fantastic time celebrating National Ice Cream Day on July 17, a brilliant excuse to sample lots of cooling treats. It wasn’t just the residents that were excited when we found out there was a National Ice Cream Day, the eyes of the staff lit up too!  Who doesn’t love ice cream? We have all had a great time trying out new flavours and toppings, it was a wonderful way to keep cool in the heat. Our varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.

High Tea

One of the great things to look forward here at Flowerdown Care Home is the treats and bubblies for our high tea. Some days are just made special by Clifford and the kitchen team, facilitated by Kate, our activities coordinator to ensure our residents enjoy tea in high fashion.

Jubilee Celebrations

Flowerdown Care Home's beautiful residents with their loved ones, care and support staff have all celebrated Queen Elizabeth's platinum jubilee with a bang! Our residents had a great sing-a-long moment with Brian who brought his piano and played tunes like there's no tomorrow! The morning was kick started with such energy and hype, everyone was buzzing. What can be more English than afternoon tea? The residents and our visitors were satiated with home-made cakes and pastries from our Flowerdown kitchen. Cliff did go all out, and the Pimm's and Prosecco were just the extra touch we wanted! To top off the excitement, we had Jelvis perform for us- Winchester's very own Elvis Presley impersonator.

Enjoying the Sunshine

We have also had residents enjoying sitting in our garden particularly in the shade in all the hot weather we have been having.

Musical Fun

We have had a lovely afternoon this week with our musical friend Brain Budden who came to entertain us with this singing and organ playing which all residents enjoyed singing along to  - much fun was had by all.
