Activities at Epsom Beaumont Care Home

At Epsom Beaumont, the daily activities always aim to be enjoyable for all. Our Activities Coordinator is constantly working to mentally and physically stimulate each resident and ensuring that our programme is define moulded to the wants and needs of those we support. We host weekly outings to many local coffee shops, and also some bigger trips to Brighton and the Brooklands Museum. Our outings tend to be a new and exciting experience for residents, but are sometimes repeated for those who could not make the trip the first time. The activity schedule changes weekly, but there are some regularities, such as our crossword and bar nights, where families are invited to join their loved ones for a social evening. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home and we are proud to say we have a dedicated Activities Coordinator who is supported by all of the care team to really make it successful. We have received excellent feedback from residents and relatives, which only makes our bond with them stronger.

Louisa Capaldi

Activities Coordinator

I always said when I started working I wanted to have a rewarding job that puts a smile on people’s faces and makes their day just that little bit brighter! I started working in the care sector as a hospitality Assistant, and then became a carer and then the activities coordinator. I really enjoy getting the residents up and moving, and getting active. I enjoy learning new things about the residents and doing meaningful activities with them that they enjoy and benefit from.

Pet Therapy

It is thought that animals could help people with dementia by providing companionship and support in daily activities and that this might lead to improvements in physical and mental health, including better mood and fewer problematic behaviours. Our community dogs visit weekly to spend some time with our residents.

Flower Power

We set up some flower arranging activities on our Memory Lane community. It serves as a group activity, and is a relaxed, enjoyable activity that involves both mental and physical aspects, as well as hand-eye coordination. It involves the sense of smell and touch, so is also a sensory experience.

World Animal Day

4th October is World Animal Day, an international celebration for animal rights and welfare. The day seeks to mobilise those involved in the animal welfare movement, so that they can be a united global force to make the world a better place for all animals.

Cheese & Wine Tasting

Residents at Epsom Beaumont indulged in some yummy cheese and wine tasting. A selection of top wines were selected for them to taste and after each one, they cleansed their pallets with a variety of delicate cheeses and crackers. The wines ranged from Chenin Blanc to Rioja with a fruity Rose in between. After each wine, the residents discussed and rated them. The overall winner was the Chenin Blanc.

The hospitality team tried to pair each wine with a cheese to go such as an English Stilton paired a Rioja and a creamy Somerset Brie to go with our Chenin blanc

This led residents onto discussing what types of wine they prefer. Alex is partial to a red wine and Cora said she enjoys a sweet white. Roger declined the wines and opted for the non-alcoholic options which he said tasted like wine. Everyone agreed that the evening was a success and said that they could take part in the tasting every day after their evening meal.

The Golden Years

A big thanks to the Rah Rah Community Theatre Company, who transported a group of residents back to the golden years of the 1950s, with a performance of 'Rock Around The Clock', which was a musical comedy and love story, set in the '50s, containing all the popular tunes of that time.

The show has been devised to whisk audiences back to this memorable era, allowing them to participate and reminisce.
