Activities at Elm Bank Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Tina Prosho

Activities Lead

Hello my name is Tina and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Elm Bank Care Home.

I joined Elm Bank in May 2023 as a Team Leader soon becoming the Head of Care before moving to the role of Activities Coordinator and leading the team in January 2024. My passion is to provide life enriching activities that enhance the lives of our residents.

By providing entertainment that is not only stimulating but person-centred. Our weekly calendar offers rich experiences with music from live entertainers, visits to various locations outside the home of interest, as well as arts and crafts tailored to individual abilities. We are a pet friendly home and fully support the benefits animal therapy can bring to the lives of our residents and welcome animals of all kinds to the home on a regular basis.

Getting to know our residents better is so important, and through regular family and friends meetings we can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining Elm Bank that will make for a richer activities program to be developed. I look forward to getting to know you, and your loved ones.

We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please click here to contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.

Our First Hatchling

Today our residents became the proud parents of their first of 5 ducklings!

This little bundle of feathered joy hatched into the world following many bill taps, leg and wing stretches.

We have been nurturing the duck eggs over the past few days, ensuring their incubator courtesy of https://www.incredibleeggs.co.uk stays at the required temperature and any hatchlings have fresh water available should they arrive early.

Everyone is so excited to see them breakthrough, and one by one they will be transferred to their brooding unit, where they can be cared for by our residents and carefully handled.

Watch out for more posts as they all joint the Elm Bank family and get lots of cuddles.

Nutrition and Hydration Week

Both Activities and the Hospitality team paired up to create a smoothie making afternoon for some residents on Bluebell Walk and Blossom Trail.

Residents helped cut up fruit and choose which fruit they wanted to add to their smoothie. We then got a chance to taste our creations. There was a clear winner of Banana, Strawberry, Pineapple, Blueberry and Kiwi mixed with Vanilla Ice-cream. We shared the extra smoothie mix with other residents on Bluebell Walk.

Thank you to Garion our host for supporting our activity.

Incredible Eggs!

Today our Duckling Eggs arrived at Elm Bank from the wonderfully company Incredible Eggs. All five eggs are kept warm in their incubator until they hatch. We should have the first start hatching between Wednesday and Friday.

We'll let you all know once they start hatching and will include daily updates on their progress and growth.

Pot of Gold gifts

Daisy Lane Residents have been getting ready for St Patrick's Day by making some 'Pot of Gold' gifts for our visitors with a special chocolate to enjoy.  We had a lovely, messy afternoon using our fingers to create the rainbow and coming up with some positive messages. Thank you to Mollie and Rachel for joining in with our activity and spreading joy.

Tea with Housekeeping

Wednesday Afternoon Tea delights on our Daisy Community courtesy of Head of Housekeeping; Tina and her colleagues.

It was all smiles and laughter over freshly made sandwiches and sweet treats as the residents sat together to share stories and enjoy the beautiful spread.

Tina and the housekeeping team host this weekly event to ensure the community stay connected and engage with one another. It’s an opportunity to reminisce, sing or simply chat about anything and everything they wish to share their thoughts on.

Thank you Tina, our residents love this special time with you and the team.

International Women's Day

Today we celebrated International Women's Day by asking our residents what their message would be to the younger generation. It was lovely to hear so many stories about their lives growing up and seeing their messages to our future women.

Happy International Women's Day to all friends and family of Elm Bank Care Home.
