Activities at Dudwell St Mary Care Home

Our activity coordinator provides our home with a fun-packed weekly programme to engage all residents. Past activities include bread making, pottery, knitting, and card making. Not only do we run regular exercise programmes for the residents but we also have our regular entertainers come in to entertain our residents and their families. The activity coordinator visits residents on a one-to-one basis, for a chat, manicure and hand massage. The activity co-ordinator said "Residents love the one-to-ones and especially enjoy the manicure and hand massage, as not only is it stimulating but it boosts their confidence and pride in their appearance.''

Linda Lawes

Activities Coordinator

My Name is Linda and I am one of the Activities Co-ordinators at Dudwell St. Mary care home.

I joined Dudwell St Mary in April 2008 as a Housekeeping Assistant and later became the Head of Housekeeping.  In 2018 I then became an activities co-ordinator where I brought lots of new exciting ideas to the role.

I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents’ faces through different types of activities. My personality is bright and bubbly so aim to share this each day at work.

As I gather the residents likes and dislikes if you would like to come and chat with me about your family member please contact the home to arrange.

Carers Week

Carers at Dudwell St Mary were made to feel extra special as we celebrated Carers Week on 15th June. General Manager, Happiness Chinyimba, thanked the Carers for their hard work, commitment and high standards of care.

This home couldn’t provide the services we do without the hard work, compassion and commitment of our Carers. The care and support they give helps people to live with dignity, choice and as much independence as possible.

The Carers enjoyed a hamper of chocolates and an afternoon filled with fun and laughter.

Eggy Bread

Eggy Bread

Some residents asked if they could have eggy bread for breakfast, so we offered it to anyone who wanted it. It was a great success and we hope to make it again in the future. I think it took everyone back to their childhood breakfasts with their families.

Musical Memories

Musical Memories

This lady singer is named Laurie and she is from Musical Memories. She came along to entertain during Dementia Awareness Week in May and sang all the favourites with residents.

We're opening our doors to lonely older people

We're opening our doors to lonely older people

We're helping to tackle loneliness in the community by inviting anyone who would usually dine alone to join us on Fridays for fish & chips at Lunch time.

We hope that the weekly offer of a free meal in good company will help reduce the feeling of isolation that some older people in the local area are sadly facing on a daily basis.

Diners will be treated to a tasty lunch in our stunning, recently refurbished dining room and will have the chance to chat to staff and residents while enjoying their food.
