Activities at Dovedale Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Brian Sandham

Activities Coordinator

My name is Brian, I’m the activities coordinator down here at Dovedale. I’m new to the care sector, I’ve been a photographer and photography tutor since 2004 dealing with different ages groups and abilities.   I’m looking forward to putting my people skills to good use down here at Dovedale.

I might be new to the care sector but I’m super looking forward to spreading a bit of extra sunshine and cheer around the home.

Lancashire Infantry museum

We took a trip to the Lancashire Infantry museum based inside the Army barracks at Preston.  The residents loved looking around the old uniforms and war memorabilia. We had our own tour guide who made the experience more informative and enjoyable. Residents got to try on uniforms and they loved it. We’ve been invited back and can’t wait to go.

Historic Royal Palaces

Across our services, our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session.  Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!

We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.

Virtual Book Club

We had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.

Our residents here at Dovedale Court were treated to an afternoon of entertainment from singer and entertainer Johnny Wright. Johnny was recently a singer for the Jerseys who sold out arena’s Worldwide! What a voice and our residents have already asked for him to return.

Valentine's Day at Dovedale

The month of love. Our residents dined together in a fully decorated room, enjoyed a nice meal with wine and followed that with chocolates and a nice coffee.

Cake baking and decorating

Here at Dovedale Court, residents had a cake baking day. We all mixed, whipped, and stirred, prepared our tins, and had them all ready to go onto the oven. After they had baked, we went onto piping and cake decorating. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it! The real highlight of the day was getting to eat them with a nice cup of tea!
