Activities at Dovedale Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Brian Sandham

Activities Coordinator

My name is Brian, I’m the activities coordinator down here at Dovedale. I’m new to the care sector, I’ve been a photographer and photography tutor since 2004 dealing with different ages groups and abilities.   I’m looking forward to putting my people skills to good use down here at Dovedale.

I might be new to the care sector but I’m super looking forward to spreading a bit of extra sunshine and cheer around the home.

Life at Dovedale Court Care Home

Knowsley Safari Park

We enjoyed a recent visit to Knowsley Safari Park, we spent the day driving around the reserve looking at the animals and enjoyed a picnic prepared by our kitchen staff.

The monkeys were everybody’s favourite as we watched them play and jump around. One of residents was talking about it a week later and said ‘it was fantastic’.

National Chocolate Cake Day

Residents really enjoyed baking themselves and reminiscing about baking with their parents or with their children. They then enjoyed eating them in the afternoon.

Elf Day

We got into the festive spirit, had the local school children choir singing Christmas carols which was thoroughly enjoyed by our residents, even making some of them teary eyed with joy.

Our staff had a competition of Best Dressed, judged by family members and residents. Our winner was Chief Elf, Deputy Manager, Tracy.

Happy Birthday

Resident, Frank recently celebrated 90 years young with his wife, Freda who joined him on his special day. The home was decorated with birthday balloons, and the birthday boy was overjoyed to see favourite vocalist, Amanda Kelly who performed a special ‘Happy Birthday’ along with a medley of popular songs that saw everyone singing along too. It was a fun-filled day for everyone.

Residents Take Trip to Garden Centre

The Residents of Dovedale recently enjoyed a trip to local garden centre, Dobbies looking for ideas on where to get started with their festive decorations. They were amazed at the vast selection of colourful and gltizy decorations which left them ready to sit back and relax in the café to enjoy a delicious slice of cake and a cup of tea/coffee. The residents really enjoyed seeing and feeling the decorations using their senses.

Everyone had a great time, commenting: “It was lovely to have a change of scenery and we enjoyed talking about some fond memories of visiting this particular garden centre with our familes previously.”

General Manager, Racheal Watson said “It was lovely seeing the Residents doing something they would have done in their day to day lives at home. It was great to see them pottering around, looking at all of the plants available and discussing their gardens at home and to be getting into the festive spirit”

Harvest Festival Donations

Residents, loved ones, friends and staff members at Dovedale celebrated the Harvest Festival by donating a food hamper to the local Salvation Army. It really was heart-warming to see how much people care about helping others who are less fortunate.

Thanks to everyone who contributed; it will all be distributed to where it is needed most within our community.
