Activities at Cookridge Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Laura Marshall

Head Activities Coordinator (on Maternity leave)

My name is Laura and I am the Head Activities Coordinator here at Cookridge Court. I have worked in care since 2014 and get so much satisfaction out of knowing I have made a difference to people’s days and have filled the home with a sense of community and happiness. We have created a wonderful culture within our home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active and ensure we all know each residents' preferences so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. The strong relationships we build with our residents, their families and friends is essential to our homely feel.

Life at Cookridge Court Care Home

Birds of Prey

Cookridge Court care home, in Leeds, was full of bird mischief this week when the amazing birds of prey came to visit the home.

Residents at Cookridge Court Care Home were pleasantly surprised to see the magnicifcaint birds such as Deigo the white faced owl from South Africa, Dusty the wonderful Barn owl, Henrietta the 21 year old Eagle Owl and finally Maverick the Harris Hawk, who were all roaming around the lounge as Owl Adventures paid a visit.

Book Club Corner

Across our services, our residents had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.

The virtual book club experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Historic Royal Palaces

Our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session.  Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!

We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.

Love is in the Air!

We hope you have had a wonderful day, filled with love and happiness…

We certainly have at Cookridge Court, as Activity assistants Libby & Kate, alongside the kitchen team, hosted a very special lunch, for a very special couple - Judith & John.

Judith & John have been married for an amazing 67 years. The love they have for each other is so strong, so what better way than to enjoy a romantic meal together, on the one day, where it’s all about love.

Judith said “ I cannot thank everyone enough for organising this for both me and John. We both had a wonderful, special time together.”

Valentine's Art Group

The wonderful Miriam returned this week with a fabulous Valentine’s Day themed craft session.

This session welcomed everybody to come along and get involved. The ladies especially enjoyed themselves as they gathered together to get creative and have a natter over a glass of wine.

Everyone had a fabulous time creating a decorative heart decoration to hang in their rooms
