Activities at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Shelbie Taylor

Head of Activities

Hi my name is Shelbie, I have recently been promoted to Head of Activities here at Boroughbridge Manor.

I have worked at Boroughbridge Manor for 7 years, I love making our residents smile. I get great satisfaction knowing I have made someone’s day better!

Myself, Leoni and Suzanne have created a wonderful culture within Boroughbridge Manor and we work together to give our residents the best possible experiences.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. We are extremely fortunate to have our very own minibus, we love taking the residents out for coffee, shopping and lots of fun trips out whether that be to the museum or the seaside.

Festive Floral Arrangements

Residents came together for an in house flower arranging competition with the help of Leoni, Suzanne and Andreea.

Using a variety of beautiful flowers and foliage picked from our garden, residents used their creative skills to produce aesthetically pleasing arrangements.

Flower arranging is a very popular activity amongst our residents here at Boroughbridge Manor. It enables them be as imaginative as they like and encourages reminiscence, the use of their hands and reduces feelings of stress and anxiety.

Well done to everyone!

You have all done a great job!

Christmas Cookery Demonstration

We had a fantastic time this afternoon joining Chef Alex Connell from V for Life for a Christmas-inspired live virtual cookery demonstration.

Chef Alex showed us how to make and decorate a gingerbread house from scratch!

Alex is very creative and his gingerbread house looked fantastic!

Yesterday we had the opportunity to decorate our own gingerbread houses to be entered into a themed competition, where Chef Alex will judge the entries in the New Year.

We have had a lovely afternoon.

Gingerbread House Making

We love any excuse to get creative so when we found out it was Gingerbread House Day we didn’t need any persuading to get cracking.

Residents throughout the home enjoyed building and decorating their gingerbread houses, so much half of a roof is missing because one of our residents thought it looked rather delicious and ate it!

The residents worked together as a team and between them, created some lovely gingerbread houses.

What a fun way to spend the afternoon.

Mulled Wine, Mince Pies and Friends!

Resident’s at Boroughbridge Manor throughly enjoyed an afternoon of festive music, homemade mulled wine and mince pies.

We’re definitely getting into the Christmas spirit.

Christmas Jumper Day

We helped to make the world a better place by wearing our fun and festive Christmas jumpers, in aid of Save the Children’s annual fundraising event.

Our residents have been encouraged to wear or decorate their own special Christmas jumpers and raise awareness for children in need all around the world.

Some of our residents have been very creative and designed their own glitzy jumper bunting. It looks amazing!

In the afternoon we all enjoyed a Christmas themed quiz and a cuppa amongst friends.

It was a wonderful day, enjoyed by all

Visit from Therapy Dogs

We enjoyed another wonderful visit therapy from Carmel and Ruldoph aka Ciara at Therapy Dogs Nationwide.

Residents always love welcoming our furry friends into the home for plenty of cuddles and strokes!
