Activities at Austen House Care Home

Here at Austen House, we like to get to know those we support, and from the day of moving in, our activities team will spend time on an individual basis learning about interests, likes and dislikes, life history and favourite hobbies.

We provide a wide range of activities, from one-to-one time, manicures and board games, through to live entertainment, prize bingo and our ever-popular cheese & wine events. Our activities team will also tailor individual activities to ensure residents can have as much or as little involvement as they choose.

In the summer months, greater focus is given to outdoor activities, such as barbecues and garden parties. In conjunction with our Chef, themed events are planned throughout the year, bringing activities and food together.

In their pink polo shirts, our activities team are easily identifiable and embrace ideas and suggestions from residents and their relatives to ensure that the activities provided keep those we support engaged, stimulated and entertained.

National Beer Day

On 15th of June we had a fun-filled day as we raised a glass and tasted top ales in recognition of National Beer Day. Our residents spent time learning about craft brewing and the history of beer, others preferred to join the beer tasting session in the garden and to try beers from all around the world. Some of the residents took a minibus trip to the local pub 'Seven Red Roses' and enjoyed celebrating the day as on the old times with an ice cold tipple and a good chat with friends in the sunshine.

It was a wonderful day, enjoyed by all.

Flower Arraging

Our residents had a lovely time doing their own flower arrangements, enjoying the sunshine whilst discussing the many types of flowers and their vibrant colours.

The scents of the flowers filled the room and our bouquets brightened up the home even more.

Carers Week

Austen House took this great opportunity to recognise and appreciate our wonderful carers.

Staff and residents thank all of our lovely carer givers for everything they do and how much joy they bring into our residents lives.

We have an amazing team at Austen House and wanted to celebrate and thank you all, not only this week but every day for all your dedication and hard work!

International Museum Day

In recognition of International Museum Day, we’ve had the perfect opportunity to organise a day trip to our local museum, The Museum of English Rural Life.

Our residents spent time learning interesting and fun facts about museum's collections and enjoyed a reminiscing session, where they shared amazing stories about their childhood, especially those who grew up on the farm.

It was a very exciting and enjoyable day for all!

International Nurses Day

We had a very special celebration at Austen House as the 12th of May was International Nurses Day. We are hugely indebted to all our nurses, and we are incredibly proud to applaud their extraordinary efforts and commitment, on this special day of recognition. International Nurses’ Day is a day to give thanks for the dedication of nurses everywhere, who go above and beyond the call of duty to deliver extraordinary care and support. Our General Manager, Joseph Patterson and residents offered to the nurses lovely gifts and handmade cards!

Coronation Celebrations!

Excitement was in the air as we all celebrated the Coronation of King Charles in style. Our home was beautifully decorated with themed flags, banners and balloons, setting the stage for a royal tea party. The whole home came together, along with families and friends to celebrate our new King and talk about the new era the country is entering.  Over the last few days the home held a Royal Tea Party, Cheese and Wine Afternoon with a Coronation -themed quiz and an amazing concert with live music performed by the fabulous Janet and Francis and their magical musical instruments.

We all had such a brilliant time celebrating the Coronation, such a momentous occasion.
