Activities at Archview Lodge Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Diane Wood

Head of Activities

Hi, my name is Diane and  I am Head of Activities here at Archview.  I have worked in the homes since 2009.

I strongly believe in creating moments for our residents and embracing their individuality with tailor made activities, whilst remaining person centred and respecting resident’s preferences. Every day I like to ensure the residents on memory lane can enjoy themselves and have a good time whilst forming bonds with each other and the staff around them.

Outside of work,  I have a 23 years old son and a wee dog called Hugo and my ambition is to make people smile and be happy.

Getting Inked

Ernest wanted another tattoo so I organised it for him to go along to Studio 13 in Edinburgh to get 2 Lotus’s done one on each arm and the initials A & A. They were the initials of his sisters Alice & Anne. Ernest said he never felt a thing.

A trip to the Hibs Grounds

We took a trip down to the Hibs ground at Easter Road. Nancy, Mary & Sandy really enjoyed themselves walking through the tunnel to the pitch and sitting in the dugout where the players sit. Sandy was so excited when he stood on the pitch he said wow I’m really here I can’t believe it. Big thank you to Aiden Gorman for organising this.

Pets at the Palaces with Jon Sleigh

Residents across our services had a delightful time during a special virtual sensory storytelling event, led by Art Historian Jon Sleigh from the Historic Royal Palaces.

Jon took us on a journey to discover some of the more unusual and unexpected inhabitants of the palaces and the Tower of London, sharing fascinating stories about the pets at the palaces.

Whilst enjoying the virtual experience, our residents were treated to hot beverages, delicious biscuits, berries and cakes.  It was a truly lovely time for all.

The rich history of coronations

Across our services Residents had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.

During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.

A trip to Dalkieth Museum

We took Margaret & George along to Dalkeith museum to have a look around. Both residents, myself & Sally found it very interesting. George is a Woodburn man himself and he knew a lot about the past history of Dalkeith, like the Brush factory, the train station that was in Dalkeith where the Morrison’s shop is now.
