Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

I'm Lynne, and I joined the Activities Team at Adlington Manor in May 2017. Previously, I have worked as a tree surgeon and have had heavy involvement with the Guides and Brownies. I love participating in activities with residents, whether that's by driving the minibus on trips outside the home, or by engaging in themed days.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in our activities here.

● Deputy Manager at Adlington Manor Care home in Poynton Mireal (May) Sanda completed VQ 5 with distinction in health and social care.

STAFF and residents at Adlington Manor Care home in Poynton were delighted when Deputy Manager Mireal (May) Sanda completed a VQ 5 with distinction in health and social care.

May was presented with gifts at a celebration in the home to mark her achievement.

May is the first person at the home to complete this award course and this is the start of her continuing development to attain a General Manager position.

Fiona Gough , General Manager at Adlington Manor Care home, said: “May is an integral member of the team who excels at what she does. I’m delighted that she has completed the course, which will help our home run even more efficiently and will enable May to develop her career further. She has worked so hard and I’m very proud of her.”

May said: “I really enjoyed learning lots of new skills and building on the knowledge I have gathered during my 6 years working at the home. I look forward to growing further within this role and continuing to support the people we care for.”

Adlington Manor provides residential care, nursing care and dementia care for 69 residents from respite care to long term stays.

Quizzing, Chuckling & Brain‑Boosting Fun!

Our residents have been putting their thinking caps firmly on this week as they tackled a whole variety of picture quizzes — and let’s just say, the competitive spirit is alive and well in our dementia community!

We’ve tested our knowledge of women in music and famous artists, puzzled over a royal spot‑the‑difference, and even pieced together a wonderfully nostalgic retro collage. There’s been plenty of “I know this one!” moments… followed by the occasional “No, wait… maybe not.”

Some residents love sharpening their observation skills by identifying whole objects from a tiny zoomed‑in clue — a challenge that has caused more than a few giggles when the big reveal shows just how wrong we all were. Others prefer the mystery of guess‑the‑person, guess‑the‑place or guess‑the‑instrument style riddles.

With so many different puzzles on offer, we’re confident there’s been a quiz for everyone — from the eagle‑eyed detectives to the music buffs, the art lovers, and the “I’m‑just‑here‑for‑the‑laughs” crowd.

Why we love quiz time:

Cognitive stimulation — keeps the brain active and engaged

Social interaction — sparks conversations, teamwork and plenty of friendly teasing

Confidence boosts — nothing beats the joy of getting a tricky answer right

Laughter therapy — especially when someone confidently identifies a zoomed‑in lemon as “the moon”

It’s been a week full of smiles, surprises and some truly impressive brainpower. Long may the quizzing continue!

Great British Care Awards

It was a glittering night of celebration at The Kimpson Hotel in Manchester on Saturday night 8th November as the best of Social Care workers gathered for the Great British Care Awards.

May, Deputy manager, Adrian Senior Nurse and Honey Joy were successful regional finalists but, sadly, not the overall winners – It is a great achievement to have been regional finalists, and we celebrate excellence in Care.

Connecting With Nature

Nothing brings a smile to our residents' faces quite like a lovely day outside! Yesterday, we had a wonderful time soaking up the sun, enjoying the fresh air, and connecting with nature.

Spending time outdoors has so many incredible benefits! From boosting mood and reducing stress to enhancing cognitive function, being in the fresh air can truly uplift the spirit. Our residents soaked up vitamin D while engaging in light exercises and simply appreciating the beauty of their surroundings.

Whether it's a leisurely stroll in the garden, some gentle gardening, or just sitting outside with friends, these moments are all about joy, connection, and promoting well-being. We believe that everyone deserves time in nature, and we're so grateful our residents can enjoy experiences like this together!

Valentine's Day at Adlington Manor

Valentine's Day was celebrated with wonderful cocktails. Chef Alfie baked a fabulous chocolate hearts cake and every resident had a red rose from a secret Valentine.

The day was enjoyed by everyone. We hope that the love that you give will be returned 10-fold.

20 Years of Service

We celebrated Senior Carer Malczewska 20 year service at Adlington Manor. Kasia works on night duty and provides support across the home for all our lovely residents.

Thank you, Kasia, and we look forward to another 20 years of caring, compassionate service to our residents!

Ice Cream Sundae Competition! 🍨

Our talented residents have been getting creative in the kitchen and have made some fantastic ice cream sundaes to be entered into the Barchester Ice Cream Sundae Competition!

From colourful toppings to imaginative designs, everyone had great fun creating their delicious masterpieces. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and can't wait to see how they get on in the competition.

Joy that only music can bring

Our residents spent an afternoon wrapped in the kind of joy that only music can bring — the gentle kind that settles into a room and lights up every face. The moment the first notes began, something shifted. Shoulders relaxed, eyes brightened, and a quiet buzz of anticipation filled the space as everyone eased into singing, swaying, tapping, and playing instruments together.

A shared moment of connection

What made the afternoon so special wasn’t just the music itself, but the way it brought everyone closer.

Voices blended into familiar melodies that sparked memories.

Hands tapped out rhythms on drums and shakers with pride and playfulness.

Feet moved — some in small steps, some in full dances — each one a celebration of being present and alive.

There was laughter, there were soft moments of reflection, and there were bursts of pure, unfiltered joy. Even those who joined in quietly found themselves carried along by the warmth of the group.

Why afternoons like this matter

Music has a way of reaching places words can’t. It awakens memories, encourages movement, and creates a sense of belonging. This afternoon reminded us how powerful it is to simply share a moment — to sing a line together, to tap a beat in unison, to smile at someone across the room who’s feeling the same spark of happiness.

Baking session filled with laughter

What a joyful day in our home. Our residents rolled up their sleeves for a baking session filled with laughter, teamwork and a whole lot of icing. They baked their own cakes, decorated them with real creativity, and then shared their treats with the rest of the community.

Activities like this aren’t just fun — they help our residents stay connected, express themselves, and enjoy meaningful moments together. Seeing the pride on their faces as they shared their creations was truly special.

Thank you to our wonderful residents for filling the home with warmth (and delicious smells). We hope you enjoy these snapshots of their day.

Sheila's birthday

Regardless of age, a birthday is special – chocolate cake and candles for Sheila's birthday - we would never disclose a lady's age, but she had a wonderful day and all the residents enjoyed a slice of very good cake.

Great British Care Awards Success
