Activities at Woodland View Care Home

Activities at Woodland View

Woodland View is passionately committed to providing residents with a varied choice of entertainment, social, health and well being, craft and relaxation based activities.

Activities will all be meaningful and based on the likes of residents and will continue to evolve depending on our residents. The activities provided will also include involvement from other local community based organisations and are open to all residents, family and friends of residents. Our activities will be facilitated by staff from all departments as well as invited guests. Families are also enthusiastically encouraged to play a part in activities when possible.

There will always be at least one person at every activity who has been DBS checked to ensure the safeguarding of our residents. The dignity of our residents and our respect for them is at the centre of everything we do, each and every day.

We are always reviewing and changing our schedule of activities to be a centre of excellence and actively invite feedback and suggestions for new and meaningful activities and ideas.

Petra Hardman

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Petra and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Woodland View. I love seeing the difference that activities can make to each individual, and finding out what interests they have and ensure I incorporate that into our activities here.

I love music and drama coming from a musical background as a singer all over the country, music is important to me and I feel it makes such a difference to everyone, it evokes memories, and creates happiness. I also love to boost residents self esteem by creating pampering sessions and having one to one time to relax and reminisce.

Christmas Cake Competition Winner

A very big congratulations to Head Chef Richard for winning the Barchester Christmas cake competition! We are very lucky to Chef Richard here at Woodland View and he is loved by our residents.

Thank you to every one of the relatives and friends that have joined in all of the festive competitions here at Woodland View care home over this Christmas period.

Philip Morant School Choir

What a wonderful community week!

First up we had the fantastic Choir from Philip Morant School and College who entertained our residents with Christmas songs and some modern and classic songs, the residents loved the singing, and said all the children "looked so smart in their uniforms" and "so polite and friendly, with beautiful voices".

We then had Colchester Ukulele group "U4U" who entertained our residents, with some lovely carols and traditional songs.

We then had a donation of Christmas gifts that had been donated by Hazelmere Infant School and Nursery which was dropped off by the lovely Julieanne.

We really have such an amazing community, we have also had the children of Queen Boudica Primary School in to sing for our residents.

Remembrance Day

Here at Woodland View, our residents have been remembering the fallen on Armistice Day by painting poppies that have been lovingly displayed around our home.

We observed the two-minute silence, then watched royalty place tributes live on television, some residents visited Reverend Gibbs sermon afterwards.

Jesters Theatre Academy

We had such a lovely afternoon with Annie from Jesters Theatre Academy. Annie is highly educated in performing arts and holds a teaching degree. She runs a performing arts school in Colchester and Chelmsford with lots of shows and events.

We are grateful for the sessions Annie provides us. Today provided lots of interaction, reminiscing, singing and smiles.

Andy's Vocals

We had entertainment from a new act called 'Andy's Vocals', residents loved being taken back through the years, and there was lots of swaying, singing and Dancing from residents and staff!

Christmas Sugar Craft

This week we started the sugar craft for our Christmas Cakes, which residents and Head Chef have all come up with ideas for.

These ideas are being kept under wraps, ready for the Barchester Christmas cake competition. It really is going to be a whole home approach, with even our General Manager cutting out icing today!
