Activities at Woodland View Care Home

Activities at Woodland View

Woodland View is passionately committed to providing residents with a varied choice of entertainment, social, health and well being, craft and relaxation based activities.

Activities will all be meaningful and based on the likes of residents and will continue to evolve depending on our residents. The activities provided will also include involvement from other local community based organisations and are open to all residents, family and friends of residents. Our activities will be facilitated by staff from all departments as well as invited guests. Families are also enthusiastically encouraged to play a part in activities when possible.

There will always be at least one person at every activity who has been DBS checked to ensure the safeguarding of our residents. The dignity of our residents and our respect for them is at the centre of everything we do, each and every day.

We are always reviewing and changing our schedule of activities to be a centre of excellence and actively invite feedback and suggestions for new and meaningful activities and ideas.

Petra Hardman

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Petra and I'm the Activities Coordinator here at Woodland View. I love seeing the difference that activities can make to each individual, and finding out what interests they have and ensure I incorporate that into our activities here.

I love music and drama coming from a musical background as a singer all over the country, music is important to me and I feel it makes such a difference to everyone, it evokes memories, and creates happiness. I also love to boost residents self esteem by creating pampering sessions and having one to one time to relax and reminisce.

Minibus trip

This afternoon we took advantage of the cooler weather, and went on a mini-bus trip with some of our residents. We went to Craft Nurseries Garden Centre in Manningtree. We got caught in the downpour, but it didn't dampen anyones spirits, and we all loved looking at the gift shop, trying on hats and seeing all the decorations. We then had a break at the coffee shop, and a well deserved cup of tea or coffee! Smiles all round from residents and staff, even in the rain!

Blast from the past

Today one of our residents Peter Hurst had a blast from the past. Peter who is 95 and has been a resident at Woodland View Nursing Home for the past five years used to be a teacher at Monkwick School and today 5 of his previous students came to visit him. The previous students (pictured left to right: Richard Arnold, Alan Dennis, Adrian Webster, Trevor Moss, Derrick Saddler) attended Monkwick School between the years of 1963-1968. They had nothing but lovely things to say about Peter and enjoyed a very long overdue catch up with him. Peter was a teacher at Monkwick from 1961 – 1987 and taught physical Education, then later taught Geography.

Gorgeous Grandma Day

This week at Woodland View, we have had our regular visit from G Fitness, for our chair fitness, all residents also loved playing the Quoits game. We have also been enjoying lots of Arts and Crafts with painting our window in a summer theme, painting stained glass pictures and making cards. We finished the week celebrating Gorgeous Grandma Day, by presenting each resident with a flower donated by two local florists, the smiles from each resident of appreciation was lovely. The residents also enjoyed a social coffee morning, that all families were invited along to celebrate the occasion.

Weekly Activities

We enjoyed a variety of stimulating activities recently. We started the week with some relaxing hand massages and manicures, we then made fresh fruit smoothies, that everyone enjoyed.

We had some gentle chair exercises on Wednesday and Thursday with Chloe and Kristy, which a lot of residents look forward to weekly. We also had our regular weekly visit from Reverend Gibbs.

On Friday, the residents heard the familiar sound of the ice cream van, which visited us here by prior arrangement, everyone was delighted to devour a plain cone or a 99 with the flake!

Saturday was a lovely day with a visit from an accordion player through a local community charity, who treated us to cultural music from Spain and France, and all residents agreed he should come back very soon!

We finished the weekend by baking some delicious shortbread to have for afternoon tea.

Christmas Shopping

Residents and the Activities team today ventured out to the beautiful winter wonderland display at Poplar Nurseries at Tiptree to get some Christmas shopping done.

We were astounded by the bright lights, decor and outstanding displays. We even purchased some of the decorations for our home.

While we visited the garden centre, we learnt that we could enter a ‘polar nurseries’ photo competition in which we took part in.

A nice warm drink to quench our thirst and a slice of cake to end the afternoon... what better way to spend a Tuesday?
