Activities at Windmill Manor Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at Windmill Manor Care Home

The Crossword Club at Windmill Manor.

Did you know that studies have shown that doing crosswords and number puzzles in later life could sharpen your brain and help with memory function.

We love to get together over a crossword at Windmill Manor. Residents met in our lovely lounge over a cup of tea and home baked cake and complete the crossword together. Great fun and good for our brain.

Pumpkin carving and delicious treats.

Windmill Manor hosted a lovely pumpkin carving event this week in readiness for All Hallows eve next Tuesday. Children from the local community joined residents and their loved ones for a lovely tea party. Our chefs prepared delicious cakes and treats for us to enjoy.

Everyone one had a go a carving pumpkins to decorate the home and Ellie, our General Manager judged a winner and presented prizes for the best out fit and the best carved pumpkin.

A lovely afternoon was had by all, thank you to everyone who joined us.

The home looks fabulous decorated with the lovely pumpkins.

A memorable day for Dinah

Dinah a resident of Windmill Manor served as a WAAF in the RAF, she had lots of lovely memories and experiences and she often shared them with her family and team at Windmill Manor. Staff new this was a special time in Dinah's life so they organised to take Dinah and her son, Steve to the RAF Museum London to enjoy a memorable day together and reminisce.

It is always so heart warming being able to see our residents enjoy a special experience tailor made just for them.

Shuttleworth Collection Old Warden Aerodrome

Brian is a resident at Windmill Manor and has an extensive knowledge and interest of World War 1 history.

Brian has visited most museums including World War I cemeteries in France.

The Shuttleworth Collection was one of the places him and his friend Alan had never visited… So staff of Windmill Manor Care Home made it happen.

Brian was so grateful to have this opportunity and had an absolutely fabulous day.

Alzheimers Awareness Month

During Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, we have been busy fundraising for The Alzheimer’s Society. We participated in the Hurst Green Village Fair, with our “Treasure Hunt”. Treasure was hidden somewhere in Windmill Manor, and it was for each person to decide where. A £1 a go with a chance to win a £50 meal voucher for one of the local restaurants in Oxted.

Congratulation to the Winner Barbara Whittington who chose Room 13.

The Ice Bucket Challenge was bravely taken by members of staff from all departments at Windmill Manor. Our residents enjoyed watching the fun of the staff getting soaked.

A grand total of £206 was raised for the Alzheimer’s Society. We would like to thank everyone who supported us.
