"After a life saving experience in hospital, well enough to join Barchester Windmill Manor Care Home. On arrival excellent welcoming. Met me, taken to my room, beautifully equipped bedroom with ensuite, spotless. The staff so kind, turn their hand to everything that is required of them. Diet requirements with a varied choice, home-cooked delicious food. My rest and recuperation two weeks allowed me to be discharged from hospital."

"My mum has been a resident at Windmill Manor for over four years now. Her dementia has worsened and her care needs increased, and the staff at the home have supported her the whole way. Sometimes there are maybe fewer staff than ideal particularly at the weekends, but generally she is cared for very well, and is mostly very content. The doctor visits regularly, and there are often performances by local musicians and performers. We can visit when we want to and she loves a trip down to the reception area, where there is always tea and coffee available. Mum thinks the world of her lead carer. All in all, I think Windmill Manor is very good, and since my mum's been there we haven't had to worry about her - she's safe, warm, fed, and above all cared for."

"From our initial contact, looking for respite care for my aunt, we have had excellent help and care. For family reasons, we have moved my aunt from Windmill Manor after 3 months. We have chosen another Barcester home for her, nearer to her relatives. Our choice was helped by her experience at Windmill Manor."

"My wife came to stay at Windmill Manor following a deterioration in her physical health and Alzheimer's. Her needs were complex, requiring help with eating, drinking and all aspects of personal care. The care staff were wonderful, treating her with kindness, compassion and dignity, respecting her as an individual. They took time to engage with my wife and our family to find out about her personality and interests, developing a genuine rapport with her. The nursing staff were responsive to any questions or concerns we had. Her room was bright, spacious and well-equipped. We were able to bring in familiar photos from home to personalise them. The food is very good and was adapted to my wife’s eating requirements and tastes, she loved poached eggs! There is a high standard of cleanliness throughout the nursing home; most importantly, my wife’s personal care was always a high priority for the staff. Thank you to everyone involved in my wife’s care during her time at Windmill Manor."

"We initially chose Barchester Windmill Manor Care Home very carefully and have no regrets or doubts about our selection. Everything has been smooth and straightforward as Mum has arrived, the admin, settling Mum in and tweaking her room and care plan. The team have kept us informed and is happy to discuss any aspect of Mum's tenure. We feel as supported as Mum clearly is. Many, many thanks."

"I would like to say from the moment I first walked in here, I was impressed at how friendly everyone was and how clean it was. Nothing is too much trouble, the rooms are excellent. Everyone is so kind to the residents, even when things get stressful. The food is very good, the coffee room is free for all of us with beautiful cakes and a lovely sitting area."

"I have all the staff very helpful and kind. I would like to see my husband taken for a walk outside and maybe physio therapy-exercise class. My only concern is the boredom with the lack of activities, otherwise, he is very well cared for and attended to."

"My mother has lived at Windmill manor for over 5 years. During that time she has been respected, loved, compassion with all her needs met with great care and consideration for her individuality. All the carers give so much of themselves. I can relax knowing that mum is receiving the best of care."

"My father went into Windmill Manor Home for a few week's respite stay. The manager and nursing staff couldn't have been more helpful and professional. All the care staff were very friendly and dealt with my father extremely well (He can be very difficult at times). this is the first time that he has been in respite care and we were very nervous about leaving him especially as he wasn't happy about it. But we needn't have worried. He settled in straight away. The manager is a great asset to the home, she rang me daily and then weekly to let me know that he was fine and loving life at Windmill Manor."

"My father went into Windmill Manor Home for a four-week respite stay. The manager and nursing staff couldn't have been more helpful and professional. All the care staff were very friendly and dealt with my father extremely well (he can be very awkward at times). This is the first time that he has been in respite care, and we were very nervous about leaving him, especially as he wasn't very happy about it. But we needn't have worried. He settled in straight away. His room was nice and spacious, and they had a welcome gift for him on arrival, which couldn't have been better as he loves chocolate, and this distracted him and settled him down. He loved the food and was definitely well fed. Surprisingly to us, he joined in all the activities which they provided. The manager is a great asset to the home. She rang me daily at first and then weekly to let me know that he was fine and loving life at Windmill Manor. I cannot recommend this home highly enough."

"Impossible to fault Barchester Windmill Manor Care Home. My wife has been a resident for 7 or 8 years and during that time her care has been excellent. She requires assistance for bathing, dressing, eating and drinking; she needs full hoist for transfers from bed to wheelchair etc. All this is done with great care and kindness. Her carers are kind and patient, and she is treated with love and respect."

"My father first came to Barchester Windmill Manor Care Home in April 2022 after a stay at the hospital. The care he has received is extremely good and we have been able to rest easy knowing he is in a safe, comfortable environment. Communication is good and they have also supported my mother in this difficult transition to him requiring residential care. The food is of a good standard and the dining room is a really sociable space. I had the fun of watching a game of carpet bowls last week when I was visiting: the residents were all encouraged to take part and clearly enjoyed it. A recent highlight was the range of celebrations organised for the Jubilee Weekend which were above and beyond our expectations. There was something every day with a wonderful sense of community as families were encouraged to join the fun."

"My mother has been a resident at Barchester Windmill Manor Care Home since 2017. After an initial period of adjustment, she has settled in very well and is happy living at Barchester Windmill Manor Care Home as her home. She is looked after and cared for very well and the staff are patient and kind, particularly one member of staff, who treats my mother more as a relative than a resident in ensuring her comfort and well being!"

"My wife has gone through hell and back since she had her stroke. The NHS was appalling 3 months of hell then another 3 months of hell in her first nursing home. Then she moved to the Windmill the best time of her life. It is the first time she has felt happy and safe. The staff are all you could wish for. They go out of their way nothing is too much for them. They pull out all the stops no matter what the cost."

"My Mum has lived at Windmill Manor since May 2017, almost 5 years. During that time she has been treated with love, care and dignity by a fantastic team who clearly has the resident's best interests at heart. They look after her so well, both physically and mentally, adapting easily when her needs change. Mum is happy and settled and I can see how much she values and trusts the staff. This brings me peace of mind which has been extremely important, especially during these Covid times when visiting was not allowed. The home itself is a calm and welcoming place to visit. The recent refurbishment has been done tastefully and everywhere is clean and bright. I cannot recommend Windmill Manor highly enough."

"My mum moved into Windmill Manor at the start of Covid. The staff have worked very hard in difficult circumstances. They have got to know and understand how to care for mum. She is happy and content, always well turned out and has put on some weight after being unwell before arriving here. Thank you everyone at Windmill Manor."

"My mother has been a resident at Windmill Manor since April 2021. Despite the Covid restrictions, I have been able to visit my mum in her bedroom to get a sense of both her well-being and the care provided. I have met very nice, friendly and professional staff who keep me updated on my mother’s health. I am hoping the residents will be able to spend more time in the garden as the time spent indoors has been too long."

"My Mum has lived at Windmill Manor for 4 years now, so it is very much her home and she is well settled. Relationships with all the carers and staff are very good and given the last year or so, this has been hugely important when visits from family have not been possible. I can see and feel that Mum is very well looked after in all respects and I feel confident in the care and attention she receives. COVID-19 has brought major challenges to everyone, not least the care industry. The manager and her team have handled all adversity calmly and professionally. Grateful thanks to everyone there for keeping the residents as safe as possible and for keeping the relatives up to date. The new Facebook page, set up and run by the Head Housekeeper is a great addition, allowing relatives to see what activities are taking place. It’s been great to see Mum involved and enjoying herself. I would highly recommend Windmill Manor to anyone looking for somewhere for a loved one to call home."

"The Windmill Care Home have looked after my husband for four months and I cannot thank them enough for the loving care and attention they have given him me, in particular, to have eased my mind knowing that this first-class care her has helped me worry less. They are a truly great team, no I in this team from the very top to bottom, this team are amazing. I cannot find the words to thank them enough for all they have done for us both. From the bottom of my heart, they are all angels and god bless them all to keep healthy and well, and to look after the residents who are lucky enough to be in their loving care."

"My mother-in-law has been in this care home since May 2019. Everybody is so wonderful here. We are so glad, particularly since the beginning of the year, that she has been so very well looked after. "My husband is a long-term resident in Windmill Manor. He is very well looked after and treated with great kindness and compassion. The majority of the staff are exceptional. The carers and nurses, although sometimes stretched, give the best care possible. I am always made to feel welcome and I am kept well informed of any changes in his health. During the current Covid crisis it seems that every precaution has been taken to ensure residents are kept safe. Guidance for recent restricted visiting has been clear and well managed."

"Staff always helpful and friendly. Kind to my friend and caring. Sometimes feel that resources are stretched but staff always seem to be doing their best. More help with activities would be useful, as would someone who could advise on mobility aids and other things that friends could provide for residents. Always kept informed of the resident's health. My friend seems very happy and settled here."

"My father has been cared for in a kind and empathetic manner throughout the time he has lived at Windmill Manor. The majority of staff do their utmost to meet the individual requirements of all the residents and have endeavoured to understand my father's personality and needs. I am confident that I am kept updated and alerted to any changes in his condition. The vast majority of the staff are friendly, welcoming and caring. I would recommend Windmill Manor to others requiring a dementia specialist nursing home."

"The care and love shown to my Mum at windmill Manor is second to none. She is very happy here, feeling safe and secure and being kept very well occupied by a variety of activities. "My experience of the home is generally very positive. The staff seem lovely and very caring. My mum often complains about other residents (not sure anything can be done about that) and the food, but I do recognise she can be very negative and that's the easiest thing to complain about. She is clearly cared for, safe, fed and warm, which is good!"

"Very wary originally due to poor respite care experience elsewhere. However, delighted with Windmill Manor. My husband was smiling and clean and enjoyed his stay. Staff were very reassuring and nothing was made to be a massive problem. This was his first week, but he settled in well and enjoyed the food and fun atmosphere created by the carers. This was not easy as my husband is aphasic."

The staff are a dedicated, hard-working, lovely team who not only do all they can for the residents but also care for their relatives and friends. Nothing is too much trouble. The management team is really proactive and approachable and it certainly feels like everyone is working together towards a common goal. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, it feels like my second home and adopted family. The activities are second to none which keeps the residents stimulated and busy, just what Mum needs! "The genuine desire to provide care is strongly evident in Windmill. My experience over 18 months of caring for my mother was, there seemed to be a core of very good carers who you could always rely on to provide the 'best'. But there were carers who didn't exhibit to the same level, some more recently recruited, which is why I have marked 'good' overall rather than excellent. I would have liked a bit more interaction during the day with residents but it was sometimes evident staff shortages meant this couldn't happen as much. My mother's end of life' care was superb."

"It can be very daunting for residents and their families when a loved one moves into a care home. "The staff are great and in my opinion, underpaid given that the home costs in excess of £4,800 PCM. It would be nice to see them being paid more for what is a very hard job. Dad's carers are what made me choose this home in the first place, they are fantastic."

"My friend was admitted as an end of life approach resident. I promised her I would not let her enter a care home - that I would nurse her at home (which I did for 2 years) but her condition worsened to such an extent that I had no other option. Among other things, my friend has vascular dementia so was not wholly aware of her circumstances. I could not have chosen a more caring home for her."

"The home specialises in dementia care. The atmosphere is lovely and staff are supportive and friendly. Nursing care is of a good standard and other care offered is good and professional. Relatives are well supported, both by staff and other relatives and included in many activities. Food is very good. My husband has now put on too much weight! On admission, he was very thin!"

"I believe our Mother is well cared for at Windmill Manor. She always looks clean and fresh and her health appears good. The staff are always very friendly, despite being busy, and they appear to include residents as much as they are able. However, I am not too sure how much staff time allows for 'one to one' interaction. Being able to drop by to see our mother at any time during the day is very helpful, and I also see the home as it runs on a daily basis. It is especially nice to be able to take Mum out into the coffee lounge/reception."

"Mum is very well looked after by the staff at Windmill Manor, all of whom seem very caring and treat her with real affection and respect. The food is good and despite having a very small appetite she enjoys her meals. They make an effort to provide Mum with high-calorie supplements, to counteract her falling weight, and always let the family know if there are concerns about her health."

"My father came to Windmill Manor from another home, where he was extremely unhappy and would constantly pace. That stopped almost immediately. The home feels relaxed and comfortable. "My wife has experienced nothing but careful and loving care, ever since entering Windmill Manor as a resident suffering from dementia. I have every respect for the carers who do a job that I would not have the patience to do. My only concern is the high staff turnover rate, which I suppose is due to the difficulties of the job they do, relative to their remuneration plus ongoing problems of recruitment. The care home makes every effort to keep residents entertained, both by the staff themselves or by visiting artists."

"Windmill Manor is the 4th care home that my mother has been in and whilst they have all been good, Windmill Manor is most definitely the best in every respect. The love and care that my mother has received since being there have been great. The nurses and carers treat everyone with respect and dignity, and nothing is too much trouble. They manage to maintain a sense of humour under sometimes very trying circumstances. The managers and receptionists are very friendly and welcoming and the coffee room is a real plus factor. The activities offered are amazing and certainly keep my mother occupied and amused! The standard of cleanliness is high throughout. I would have no hesitation in recommending Windmill Manor."

"I believe that Windmill Manor is second to none and I cannot thank every single member of staff enough. This is a very challenging time for me, as I have come to realise that my much loved Dad needs round the clock care. I have always found the fantastic team at Windmill Manor to be remarkably caring, knowledgeable and meticulous. Their professionalism has made this difficult situation as easy as it can be. The carers have not only treated my father with respect but also they seem to know him really well and care deeply about him. Thank you all."

"After myself and my brother had come to a decision to move my mother out of a care home, which we both felt was very poor in all departments, we found this care home which I viewed and was very happy with. We moved my mother into this one. Since she has been here, I find every time I have been in to see her, the carers have been very caring and professional in their jobs, which is a breath of fresh air. I can't imagine how people can do such a demanding job. I can see my mother is cared for very well, as she looks so much better in herself. It's been a short time since coming here but the improvement in my mother is down to the hard work of everyone in this care home The only regret is I wish we had found this place earlier. I can't thank the carers enough."

"Windmill Manor is supported by a thoughtful team who treat people with dignity and respect. The home offers a range of supportive activities and a pleasant environment for all residents. My father appears to be very content."

"In all ways, I have found all the staff in the home to be very helpful to my family with regards to my Uncle needing to be a resident in the home. They have all been sympathetic, understanding and helpful."

"Mum has been at Windmill Manor for nearly two and a half years and is approaching her 101st birthday. As a family, we know that had we not moved mum, she would not have made it to her 100th! The care and love that she receives from all the staff is second to none. Being the age she is now, she sleeps a great deal, but she does not miss out. When she is awake, she is fully involved with the activities that go on. Mum's diet is very good, with nutritional drinks being given and enjoyed. There is a new doctor, who is so caring - speaking to family members when he sees you. As a family, we have been able to relax knowing that mum is being well looked after. She has no pain and is on no medication."

"We couldn't have chosen a better care home for our Mum. You cannot fault the care and attention she gets from all the staff - regardless of their job at the care home. Wonderful facilities, surroundings and entertainment. Our Mum is having a great time - company, entertainment and being attended to. We really enjoy visiting her and getting involved with the activities we can also attend. Lovely, friendly atmosphere that makes us feel welcome. We are coming here when it is our turn."

"My husband has been a resident for over 4 years. The staff are always friendly and welcoming to visitors. The carers are exceptional, treating residents with warmth, patience, dignity and kindness. I find the home is light and spacious with lounges and well decorated/furnished wide corridors for residents who are mobile to walk around. The coffee bar area is an excellent space for visitors to spend time with their relatives. The managers of the home are available, whenever possible, to answer queries or address any concerns which are outside the remit of the carers. However a permanent experienced ‘Floor Manager’ is definitely needed on Memory Lane to co-ordinate and manage on a daily basis (hence the 'good' but not 'excellent'!) but I understand recruitment is underway."

"Welcoming to residents and relatives. Communication systems a bit hard to fathom (who to ask about what). I think some of this info could be in written form in a 'welcome pack'. Staff are approachable and reassuring - relationships between residents and carers are warm and engaging - they know the residents well. :)"

"My mother in law has a very sad case of dementia and I have found on my visits everything to be satisfactory in terms of her care and well-being. My wife (her daughter) sees her almost every day is in a better position to make a detailed judgement. I find the activities programme to be really progressive in her care."

"Caring environment, friendly and engaging but would be good if staff had more time to sit, talk and console. Remembering to shave dad occasionally would be good and make sure he is wearing clothes that fit and are clean but I accept that he does have a reasonable level of independence that should be encouraged."

"My mother has lived in the home for a while and is happy and cared for. I find the staff who sometimes have to deal with challenging residents, as the home is for those with dementia, excellent in their care of my mother and cannot fault their kindness to her and to my family."

"My wife has been a resident for nearly three years during which time she has enjoyed an excellent standard of care. Despite her immobility and often difficult behaviour, the staff are kind and patient at all times. Her personal hygiene is maintained to a high standard. The medical staff are diligent in checking her physical and mental health."

"Windmill Manor provides my sister with all of her needs. The accommodation is comfortable and warm. The food is varied and good. There is ample room to walk around and a pleasant garden area. The "social" room is large with plenty of chairs and a TV. The activities are varied and well organised with residents taking an active part. Music and singing is very popular and well attended."

"My mother has very serious dementia and Alzheimer's. It was a difficult decision to put her into care. However, we could not have chosen a better care home. The staff and facilities are second to none. The care attention and dedication of all those working in the home cannot be faulted."

"Windmill Manor is a wonderful Care Home that I and my family would highly recommend. The care and love that is given to my mother is second to none. We had to move out mother from another Care Home. Our mother had been at this home for two and a half years and the move was not an easy one but very necessary. Our mother has just celebrated her 100th birthday at Windmill Manor, a birthday that we are sure she would not have been celebrating had we not moved her. At Windmill Manor the residents are always their first priority - the manager is always trying to ensure that she employs good, caring staff. The families of residents at Windmill Manor are also very well looked after through excellent communication and always having an 'open door' policy with regards to always being available to answer any questions or queries. As a family, we would not hesitate to recommend Windmill Manor as a home that is a real home to all its residents!"

"I found it very difficult to make the decision that it was time for mum to go into a home. I had always said I would not do it so the guilt was off the scale. Mum has mixed vascular Alzheimer's. Stopping in her own home meant she became a danger to herself as she lived alone. The staff were marvellous and she settled very quickly. She has been at Barchester Windmill Manor Care Home for almost five years now and has been happy. For the first three years, she had a better social package than me. Then we found out mum had lung cancer, the level of care she has received is second to none. Everyone from the manager to the chef and everyone between has been so supportive of her changing needs and also my own."

"My wife has been at Barchester Windmill Manor Care Home since February '16. Overall, the care has been good. Some staff are excellent. My wife has had medical problems and the have responded well with either the doctor being called or the ambulance called and she was in hospital with a chest infection. I like the way residents can express a likeness for certain foods. (My wife likes mushroom and eggs)."

"Home is good. Have been involved for nearly 5 years (previously next of kin to a family friend). Carers and nurses are excellent and always work extremely hard. Food very good, all homemade. Coffee lounge is a very good place to bring the relatives away from the "floor"."
