Activities at Winchester House Care Home

Our activities team are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, including the local priory and garden centres, as well as visits from musicians, a wide range of entertainers. We are lucky enough to have a enthusiastic team of volunteers who regularly visit the home throughout the week, and our yearly pantomime is a real crowd-pleaser and is well-attended by residents, relatives and members of staff. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Winchester House is fun and active.

SIMPLY THE BEST

Peter Grant at Winchester House in Rochester has beaten all the competition to be crowned National Maintenance Champion in the Barchester Care Awards 2022.

The Barchester Care Awards celebrate the staff who go the extra mile for the benefit of the 12,600 residents living in Barchester’s 250 care homes and private hospitals across the country. Categories range from ‘Team of the Year’ and ‘Carer of the Year’ to ‘Dementia Care Champion’ and ‘Activities Coordinator of the Year’.

More than 2,960 nominations were received from homes and hospitals across the UK. All entries were a very high standard and Peter Grant is over the moon to have been named the national winner, beating hundreds of other nominees to the coveted title.

Peter Grant said: I was both made up and surprised to be voted divisional winner and to get to attend the award ceremony , to  be crowned National Maintenance Champion is the highlight of my career at Barchester so far, especially as I never expected this for what I consider is  just doing my job. I would like to thank all those who nominated me for the award and the judges who decided that it was me to be awarded the top spot this year.

Winchester House pay our Respects

On Monday 19th September, Winchester House care home along with so many people across the Earth,  paid our respects to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the day of her funeral.

The whole home came together to honour the Queen, her extraordinary life and service to the nation and the Commonwealth over 70 years of reign, making her the longest-reigning monarch in British history.

Resident's and staff watched the televised service of the State Funeral as it took place in Westminster Abbey, followed by the Committal Service in St George’s Chapel, on the grounds of Windsor Castle.

After the official ceremony, staff and residents had a discussion about our much loved and respected Queen, her early life and numerous milestones. We all shared our memories of her and reminisced about her extraordinary reign and contribution to our country.

The Wonderful Community we live in

We are so lucky here at Winchester House to have such great friends within the our community.

Last week, Dobbies the largest garden centre in the country donated some beautiful seasonal plants and equipment to be made into hanging baskets for our beautiful residential unit's gardens on 'Marconi Walk' here at Winchester house.

Emma, the 'horticulture specialist' Dobbies and our very own Mrs Witty , one of our wonderful residents wives decided on what plants and flowers would work best for the residents. Sam, Marconi Walks manager was there to offer her opinion too. They made a great team.

Both residents and staff would like to say a massive thank you to all involved, especially Mrs Witty, Emma, and Dobbies, the plants are amazing.
