International Women's Day

Residents at Wilsmere House marked International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8th by spending the day celebrating the achievements of wonderful trail-blazing women throughout history.

,

St David's Day

The home was in high spirits as they celebrated the national day of Wales with Welsh flags and daffodil decorations, fancy dress, traditional Welsh dancing and much more.

In honour of the traditional feast day and the country’s patron saint, residents and staff were treated to traditional Welsh food and drink. Everyone tucked into welsh cakes, rarebit, crempogs, leek cawl, Bara birth and laver bread, all washed down with a nip of Pandering whisky/welsh beer or cider.

,

Pancake Day

The staff and residents at Wilsmere House have been flipping and turning pancakes all morning in preparation for their annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race.

Wilsmere House has marked this year’s Pancake Day with a pancake race, pancake flipping competition and, of course, lots of pancakes!

Our Head Chef flipped more than 100 pancakes, serving them up with sweet and savoury fillings for all the eager staff and residents.

Valentine's Day

Wilsmere House was filled with flowers, cards and sweets in celebration of St Valentine’s Day. Staff and residents celebrated the day of love by creating heart-shaped decorations to decorate the home and gifting each other home-made sweets, cakes and treats.

Chinese New Year

Staff and residents at Wilsmere House in Harrow Weald welcomed in the Year of the Ox with a day of celebrations and activities.

Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, lucky red envelopes were exchanged and the home was decorated with hanging red lanterns. Residents learnt all about the traditions and superstitions of Chinese New Year. The chef cooked up an oriental feast for lunch and residents enjoyed the delicious food washed down with pots of Chinese tea.

,

Burns Night

Wilsmere House prepared a traditional Burns Night Supper to the tune of bagpipes and other traditional music, and capers continued well into the wee small hours!

Staff and residents at the home were involved in a number of activities: learning the art of Scottish country dancing and the Ceilidh to mark the Scottish institution, including giving the time-honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding’ race’ – the haggis.
