Meet our Activities Coordinator, Alphy George
I originally started working with Barchester from 2018. My favorite part of the job is getting to know the specific interests of the individual residents living here and helping them continue them whilst living at Wilsmere House.
I get to learn something new and the resident gets to continue doing something they really love. It's a great feeling to know you can make such a difference to someone's day.
Activities at Wilsmere House
Most days, you will find our Activities Coordinators doing a range of different activities with residents, whether that be in a group setting or on a one-to-one basis. It is important that our activities team are passionate about the social events that we provide, and are dedicated to delivering an activities programme that reflect the interests and capabilities of those we support, so that life at Wilsmere House is full of fun.
Life at Wilsmere House Care Centre
Staff and residents at Wilsmere House celebrated Easter with a whole host of different activities, including an Easter Egg hunt, virtually attending a live church service, Easter tea party, Easter cake-making and Easter bonnet competition.
St Patrick's Day
Residents and staff at Wilsmere House celebrated all things Irish for St Patrick’s Day this week. The home was decorated with shamrocks and everyone got dressed up in green to mark the day.
Held on March 17th, Saint Patrick's Day actually observes the death of St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, but the day has come to be a huge celebration of Irish heritage and culture.
International Women's Day
Residents at Wilsmere House marked International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8th by spending the day celebrating the achievements of wonderful trail-blazing women throughout history.
St David's Day
The home was in high spirits as they celebrated the national day of Wales with Welsh flags and daffodil decorations, fancy dress, traditional Welsh dancing and much more.
In honour of the traditional feast day and the country’s patron saint, residents and staff were treated to traditional Welsh food and drink. Everyone tucked into welsh cakes, rarebit, crempogs, leek cawl, Bara birth and laver bread, all washed down with a nip of Pandering whisky/welsh beer or cider.
The staff and residents at Wilsmere House have been flipping and turning pancakes all morning in preparation for their annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race.
Wilsmere House has marked this year’s Pancake Day with a pancake race, pancake flipping competition and, of course, lots of pancakes!
Our Head Chef flipped more than 100 pancakes, serving them up with sweet and savoury fillings for all the eager staff and residents.
Wilsmere House was filled with flowers, cards and sweets in celebration of St Valentine’s Day. Staff and residents celebrated the day of love by creating heart-shaped decorations to decorate the home and gifting each other home-made sweets, cakes and treats.
