Activities at Westlake House Care Home
Residents enjoy playing hoopla and bocce bowls, which combine exercise with the thrill of competitive sport. We invite entertainers and musicians to visit the home on a regular basis and residents very much enjoy watching them perform.
We also have our pet therapy dog, Marley, visit the home on a fortnightly basis, and residents love petting him. They also enjoy health and fitness days, where they get the opportunity to participate in armchair exercises and target games.
We always celebrate National Volunteer Week, which we use as a chance to say thank you for the wonderful work that our volunteers do that further enhances the quality of life for those who live at Westlake.
As well as continuing with our favourite activities, such as arts & crafts, bingo, knit & natter, Scrabble, board games, bridge, quizzes, pampers & manicures, reminiscence sessions and musical memories, we always like to launch new activities for residents, which give them the opportunity to socialise with their friends and families. These could be our own vegetable patches, flower arranging sessions, a book club or anything else that our imaginations conjure up.

I joined the Barchester family in November 2024 and have instantly felt welcome and supported. As an activity coordinator, I am passionate about getting to know our residents and delivering person-centred care and activities to all residents, an approach supported by a holistic, whole-home view.
I have been in a Care support role since 2019 and an Activity Coordinator since 2020. I love that my role brings laughter and joy to others. It so wonderful seeing people engaging in an activity they enjoy and interacting with each other. I am very passionate about Intergenerational projects, as something magical happens when old and young get together.

A big thank you from all at Westlake House!
Westlake House held a Thank You Cream Tea for our amazing volunteers. Residents and team members hosted our friends from the Horsham Veterans Group, Reverend Richard and Gaynor from St.Mark's Church, Mike & Shona Harling and Maria Parkhouse.
Our head chef and our hospitality team put together a lovely spread to say thank you.

Flower Power.
Another much loved flower arranging workshop was held at Westlake House.
Our residents took great pride in creating colourful, whimsical and bright bouquets of flowers that were then displayed around our lovely home.
Activities such as flower arranging engages the senses, provides cognitive and sensory simulation, improves motor skills, and instils a sense of independence and accomplishment.

A drip to the Beach!
Residents at Westlake House enjoyed a day trip out in the minibus to the beach and what a wonderful trip it was. We visited Worthing Pier and were able to find a great spot that gave us a great view out over the sea.
The weather proved to be perfect for a day out and the sea breeze assisted in more ways than one.We enjoyed delicious Fish & Chips and treated ourselves to an ice cream after.
It turned out to be a lovely day spent with a lovely bunch of people.
An amazing trip to Denbies Wine Estate,
Last week we traveled up to Dorking with our Minibus to visit the amazing Denbies Wine Estate
The scenery on the way there was spectacular and a special "playlist" created by Dave kept us going throughout the whole journey.
Once we arrived the Vineyard was in full swing with visitors having a cuppa in the lavish conservatory and others having a browse in the shop.
Our residents enjoyed some Hot chocolate topped with cream and a Cappuccino big enough to swim in alongside some delightful tea and cake.
We browsed through the dainty onsite shop and did some shopping ourselves.
As much as we love Westlake House, it was difficult for us to make our way back after such a great morning.
Off to claim a prize!
Jeremy accompanied by some of the residents and team members at Westlake House, took a trip on our mini bus to pay a visit to the lovely Newbrdige Garden Centre.
Jeremy a residents at Westlake House, won a voucher kindly donated to our recent Summer Fair Raffle. There were lots of amazing things to look at and choose from but Jeremy finally decided on a lovely bird bath, which now has pride of place in the Westlake House Gardens.
Thank you to Newbridge Garden Centre for your warm welcome and the voucher for our summer fair. I am sure you will agree Jeremey is absolutely delighted with his prize.

Off to India we go!
This week we set off to India with a session of arm chair travel. Residents at Westlake House enjoyed an afternoon learning more about India and what makes the country so spectacular.
Residents were welcomed with some soothing Indian Flute as they found their seats. Once in India we watched some videos and spoke about the beautiful scenery and festivals they celebrate.
From the snow-capped Himalayas to the pristine beaches India offers a range of breathtaking natural beauty.
The staff as well as our Deputy Manager Priscilla joined in by showcasing items of traditional clothing and jewellery that were brought in by our lovely staff members. We were all amazed by the bright colors and intricate details shown.
The residents enjoyed a Indian snack called Sakar Para which they enjoyed.
What a lovely afternoon we all had. Thank you to everyone who joined.
