Activities at Vecta House Care Home
Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at Vecta House Care Home

St Valentine’s Day
Families of the residents at Vecta House were invited for a special Valentine’s Day dining experience with their loved ones.
The activities team created a beautiful ambience with a candlelit meal for residents and their loved ones with a romantic setting and with soothing harp music being played by harpist Merlynna from Harp on the Wight group. The homes talented chef created a delicious three course meal with prawn cocktail and marry me chicken just being a few of the valentines inspired options on the days menu. Families were served by the homes hostess and activities team. It was a beautiful afternoon creating special memories for all.
The love continued to spread throughout the home with staff and residents receiving a single red rose and chocolates.

Christmas Jumper Day!
Another day of festivities was held at Vecta House with residents staff families and friends all joining in with the fun.
Staff came in with their festive gear on ready for the afternoon Christmas Catwalk.
Staff were overwhelmed with making a decision for our residents category as each and every one had a wonderful jumper but after careful consideration we all agreed our handsome Ron was the overall winner.
Next up it was time for the staff to strut their stuff and show off their Christmas jumpers. With the residents gathered together as a judging panel they chose our wonderful lyn as their overall winner. Such a fun afternoon with laughter throughout the home.

Enjoying the Island's Christmas Lights
Each year at Christmas Vecta House residents enjoy a special outing on a winters evening to enjoy the island Christmas lights display.
This year we all headed out armed with a flask of tea, blankets and snacks as we headed out on a crisps winter evening. We drove around the island to enjoy all the light displays the community had created to celebrate at this festive time of year.
We were amazed at the effort people had made to bring others such joy. Goldcrest close was the residents favourite. As we walked closer to the home Pete resident at Vecta House said wow just wow! We were surrounded by thousands of beautiful coloured lights and festive music. We headed back to the mini bus to warm up with a delicious hot beverage and continued our tour to view even more wonderful displays.

Christmas lights ceremony 2023
Residents, families and friends all gathered round the Christmas tree to enjoy listening to the delightful Christmas songs sung by Summerfield’s primary school choir. Together residents and children sang and danced to classic carols that have passed on through generations. After we had finished singing our hearts out we all headed outside for the big light switch on, everyone was surrounded by beautiful Christmas lights and the children danced under the snow machine while everyone enjoyed warm minced pies and hot chocolate. Through the laughter and enjoyment bells could be herd in the distance and to everyone’s surprise Santa was making his way down the driveway on his sleigh. Santa greeted all the children listening to the children’s wishes before heading into Vecta house to wish each and every resident a Merry Christmas.

Chuffing great birthday
We Celebrated a special birthday for one of our residents Brian who turned 80!
We had an exciting day planned along with his wife Sue so everyone at the home jumped into action to make the day as memorable as possible for Brian.
Brian got pampered in the morning and helped to get ready for the big surprise, you could hear staff through the corridors singing and wishing Brian a happy Birthday.
After lunch the taxi arrived to take Brian to his surprise destination. Brian is a train enthusiast so when we arrived at Havenstreet railway station he was grinning from ear to ear. There was lots of surprises throughout the visit, Brains favourite was seeing the train pull in with his name on the front of the steam train wishing him a happy birthday. Staff at the station rolled out the red carpet for Brain to board his very own carriage.
Taking in the beautiful woodland scenery where Brian once used to go shooting he seemed to be in his element with a great smile on his face throughout the journey. When we arrived back at Vecta House Brian enjoyed opening gifts and had a big slice of birthday cake washed down with a lovely cuppa tea.

Remembrance Day
We started preparations for Remembrance day by creating a breath-taking display of cascading poppies that we hung in the reception area for all visitors to admire as they entered the home. Each poppy was knitted and crochet by a local group the Wraxall Wollies, who donated the poppies.
Later in the week we created more displays painting poppies to display around the home.
Remembrance Sunday residents gathered together to watch live coverage of The National Service Of Remembrance. We joined the nation with two minutes silence to pay respect for members of the armed forces and for those who had lost their lives in the two world wars and later conflicts.
This was a very important day for our residents who wore their poppies proudly, as they remembered their loved ones who had served and lost their lives to the wars.
