Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Activities Lead, Dementia Champion

I first worked in the care sector in 2010, starting in domiciliary care and progressing to Care Coordinator. I have since gained a wealth of experience in dedicated dementia and residential activities, working as a peripatetic activities coordinator in 16 out of 20 homes within a group, and then in 2018, I was part of a team that commissioned a new luxury care home, where I was an Activities Team Leader.

I enjoy making wishes come true for residents: in February 2015, I organised my first wedding in a care home. The lady resident who was living with dementia was unable to travel to Hertfordshire for her granddaughters wedding, so I brought the wedding to her. I organised a wedding blessing at the home; we had a vicar, a choir, all of the bridal party, the flowers, a buffet, a wedding cake, champagne—the full works.

In 2017, I organised a smaller wedding in the garden, and this was a special wish for a gentleman resident to see his granddaughter married. Organising these special moments gives me a lot of pleasure, knowing I have made them feel special and to give families that happiness and see them smile.

I cannot wait to welcome our residents into their wonderful new home and help to bring smiles, joy and laughter to each day.

Alzheimer's residents memory walk

Residents on Memory Lane took part in The Alzheimer's Memory Walk today, walking a total of 5km to Hamworthy Park and around Upton Bay despite the cloudy weather and drizzling rainEdna, Christine, Karen, and Melody engaged the residents in the walk, with Karen (Activities Lead) leading the way for their participation in the upcoming Bournemouth Memory WalkEdna and Christine had a great time socializing with Edna's niece, Paula, and her husband, John, during the event. Josephine's special wish

A Heartwarming Afternoon of Fulfilling a Special Wish for Josephine Yesterday afternoon was a truly special and heartwarming day as we came together to fulfill a long-held wish for our dear friend Josephine. The air was filled with nostalgia and joy as Josephine reminisced with her friend Joanna about the sights and experiences that had left a lasting impression on herJosephine's eyes sparkled with happiness as she shared stories of her volunteer days on Brownsea Island, recounting the beauty and serenity she had experienced during her time there. Her passion for the island and all its wonders was evident as she regaled us with tales of Round Island, Furzy Island, Arne, and, of course, Brownsea Island

Bus trip to Wareham

This morning, despite the rain, the Upton Bay community embarked on a delightful trip to Wareham Quay. The weather may have been damp, but our spirits remained high as we enjoyed a tranquil time by the lake, surrounded by ducks and the soothing sounds of natureWe savored hot drinks together, relishing the peaceful ambiance and each other's company. The rain did not dampen our enthusiasm or our experience; instead, it added a unique charm to our outing

Visit to Canford Heath fete

This afternoon, the ladies of Upton Bay embarked on a delightful trip to a fete in Canford Heath organized by the Arch community. The event was a wonderful experience, filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a sense of community spiritWe explored the various stalls, enjoyed delicious treats, and participated in fun activities, creating lasting memories together. The warm hospitality and thoughtful organization by the Arch community made the fete truly lovely and unforgettable

Edna's Birthday

Today, the Upton Bay community came together to celebrate our lovely Edna's birthday. The day started with a delightful hair and nail pamper session in the morning to ensure everyone looked their best for the celebration.

It was a joyous occasion filled with laughter, good company, and heartfelt wishes for Edna. The community came together to show their love and appreciation for her, making this birthday a truly special and memorable one

Family fun day with the mayor of Poole

We are thrilled to share the final post about our fantastic Fun Family Day at Upton Bay Care. The event was truly special, and we were delighted to have the Mayor of Poole in attendance, who graciously spent time meeting with our resident ambassadors and other community members.

Our dedicated team put on a remarkable show that captivated all our residents, families, and visitors. The day was filled with joy, laughter, and fun activities for everyone. From free ice cream to personalised balloons from the talented team at Balloon Madness, walking on stilts, meeting Bella the Pony, and enjoying live entertainment by Nick Sellers, there was something for everyone to enjoy
