Activities at Thistle Hill Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Life at Thistle Hill Care Home

Music exercise

Regular exercise strengthens heart and improves circulation. It is also improving general mood and wellbeing.

Today like every Thursday residents joined our physiotherapist Chris for Movement to Music exercise. Chris has an amazing way of convincing everyone to participate in his class and it's always good fun.

On Monday we've tried to combine music and exercise on Memory Lane unit. Residents had a sing along and used different accessories to promote movement. Session was well received so we will have Monday Movement every week at 11am.

Flower power and bingo!

Today we had a Bingo afternoon. Our resident are serious players so there was a big tension in the room as they were competing.

Yesterday few of the ladies gathered around our craft table as we were arranging flower pots for tables on Memory Lane. We had a great time and the flowers look beautiful.

Last but not least were celebrating Birthday of one of our resident ladies. We have a birthday tradition on Ripley unit. You can be sure that you will get ' caked' ( just a little) if it's your day!

Monday Movement

Today temperatures outside were below zero but we were warm and cosy on Memory Lane cafe.

With a warm drink in hand residents enjoyed simple but effective activity.

While chatting about the spring and wishing for sunshine residents created origami butterflies. It involved colouring and folding templates.

We are also happy to say that we had a great turnout for our Monday Movement.

Barchester's Big Quiz

All over the country our care homes and hospitals linked up for Barchester’s Big Quiz of the year!

Residents tested their knowledge with a variety of questions, from historical humdingers and musical musings to pictorial puzzlers and connective conundrums.

Everyone who participated had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Meeting the Reindeers

Across our homes we got into the Christmas spirit of things by joining a festive live virtual experience, led by Des and Kelly from Performing Pets.

Our residents were thrilled to meet the charming furry friends and get up close and personal with the reindeers.  We certainly learnt some interesting facts about the animals and had a fantastic time.

Trips to St. John's Church

During the week we have made two festive trips to St. John's Church in Knaresborough.

Residents admired over 70 themed Christmas trees decorated by local businesses and charities. Visual effects were accompanied by organ music and the majestic sound of the church bell which is 250 years old!
