Activities at Reigate Beaumont Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising and delivering a fun mix of activities and events chosen by the residents here at Reigate Beaumont. We work closely with the local community who get involved in all kinds of activities within the home. We enjoy all kinds of events which could be anything from trips out to local places of interest in our minibus or visits from entertainers and musicians, spending time in our beautiful gardens, or providing great activities for the mind body and soul. We liaise with local churches and regularly hold multi-congregational services at the home.

It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and invite them to our regular events. We also have a variety of volunteers who really enjoy spending time within the home too.

Karyn Borngräber

Activities Coordinator

Each resident is unique and as an Activity Coordinator, I aim to create meaningful activities whereby residents can feel at home. From quizzes to games, stretch classes to flower arranging, reminiscing to enjoying our beautiful gardens. From musicians to Namaste sessions, outings, intergenerational and community involvement – a balanced activity program of body, mind and soul allows each resident to feel as if they have purpose and meaning in their lives. As well as sitting and having meaningful one to one engaged conversation or holding your loved ones hand – can allow a resident to feel that Reigate Beaumont is their home. With a background as a Healthcare Assistant, we are taught to provide person centred care. This has helped me to provide person centred activities.

Life at Reigate Beaumont Care Home

Heritage Open Days 2023

At Reigate Beaumont, it was a glorious sunny day to start our Heritage Open Day 2023!

Residents spent the morning learning about the homes history, reading newspaper articles and looking at electoral registers from the 1930's. It was fascinating to hear how the lawns had been meticulously designed to ensure that throughout the year...'The house, with its tiers of terraces and in all weather's, under different lights, the colours of stone, brick, foliage, and flower are constantly changing, so that at every season of the year there is something to charm the eye.' Heritage Open Days is England's largest festival of history and culture, involving thousands of local volunteers and organisations.

Around The World

Reigate Beaumont enjoyed a spectacular afternoon with our “Around the World” event.

We welcomed the Worshipful, Mayor of the Borough of Reigate and Banstead, Cllr Eddy Humphreys and his Mayoress and wife Mrs Sarah Humphreys on their first official visit to our home. Entertainment was provided by staff members that danced in their traditional national costumes. Head Chef Roman provided culinary treats from several countries around the world. It was great afternoon with residents, relatives, friends and staff chatting on our beautiful patio gardens.

Pro-Active Community

It was lovely to welcome Helen and Leanne from Pro-Active Community to our home to receive their cheque from Barchester Healthcare Charitable Foundation.

Residents and members of Pro-Active spent time in the garden enjoying a cup of tea and  a slice of delicious spinach cake prepared by Head Chef Roman. The residents chatted to them about what the charity does, as well as possible volunteering opportunities for other PAC members. It was a lovely afternoon chatting on our patio garden. A group of 20 members were taken on a lovely trip to Brighton with some of this generous activity grant.

Music with Brooklands School

Our residents really enjoy engaging in activities with students from all ages. From discussions, to quizzes, there’s always something to talk about. Music is also a firm favourite with our residents, either with a musician entertaining or a sing-a-long with staff. But combine the two and it’s the making of a very successful weekly session with Brooklands School during term time. Once a week the mini bus arrives with very excited children to join residents for music making, singing and blowing bubbles! It is amazing to see how the children and residents engage and interact with one another.

Greyhound Racing Brighton & Hove

Residents, Joe and Carol at Reigate Beaumont had always wanted to return to Brighton & Hove Greyhound Stadium, so staff at the home made their wish a reality. We learned of their love of greyhounds and their connection to Brighton & Hove Greyhound Stadium as they had raced many greyhounds there. Joe’s favourite greyhound, RoughBeech Billy had won over 20 races and holds many special memories for them there. Joe and Carol were joined by their son Mark and he was very moved for making this trip possible. When arriving at the stadium, Joe commented that he had never in a million years thought he would be able to go back to Brighton & Hove, watching the races and just reliving the experience again. He loved the outing!

Baking Club with Head Chef

Is jam before cream or cream before jam? This was our hot afternoon tea debate as residents here at the Reigate Beaumont made a fresh batch of scones with our Head Chef Roman. The great scone debate may not have been settled but residents really enjoyed their cup of tea later on in the afternoon whilst eating scones. There is always something exciting going on in the kitchen and when baking club comes around, residents are always curious to see what they are making next. At the club, residents are able to enjoy a pastime that they would have enjoyed when still living at home. It is rewarding to be able for them to still continue enjoying activities such as these.
