Activities at Red Oaks Care Home

We believe in making a difference to the lives of people living here with us and ensure that we provide a lifestyle full of choice and stimulation that is centred around each resident here at Red Oaks. This includes a whole host of varied activities, together with regular trips out around the region, taking full advantage of the home’s minibus. Our aim is to enable each person we support to continue to do the things they enjoy for as long as they possibly can.

My role as activity coordinator at Red Oaks is ensuring that all residents have a full and varied activity program. Using our getting to know me books and knowing our residents backgrounds develop our activity program. Having lived in Henfield for the past 10 years I enjoy assisting residents maintaining and forming new the community connections.

Life at Red Oaks Care Home

Photography Time

Photography Time

Everyone who visits a nursing home is used to seeing photographs being taken of residents enjoying activities. Well, this time, residents wanted to take pictures of themselves; a member of staff arranged a suitable backdrop and set a camera up that was connected to the TV, so that everyone could see the photos that we being taken. The results were truly amazing, with everyone being very keen to take pictures of each other.

Trudie and Her PAT Dog Come to Visit Red Oaks

Trudie and Her PAT Dog Come to Visit Red Oaks

Trudie and her PAT dogs have been regular visitors to Red Oaks for many years. On this occasion, she brought in Amber, who the residents at Red Oaks have known ever since she was a nine week old puppy; we were even lucky enough to get to name her. Trudie's dogs love coming to the home and visiting residents in both the nursing and dementia communities.

Christmas Day at Red Oaks

Christmas Day at Red Oaks

Christmas Day at Red Oaks is a very special day for all residents, relatives and staff. From 11:00am onwards, we had canapés with champagne available for everyone, with a special appearance from Father Christmas to take the presents around to residents. At lunch, we had approximately 30 guests, and even the chef made an appearance in the restaurant to hand carve and serve up the meats to everyone.

Henfield Brownies Come to Visit Red Oaks

Henfield Brownies Come to Visit Red Oaks

Red Oaks has very close links with many of the village youth groups. The Henfield Brownies have been coming to Red Oaks for more than 10 years and residents really look forward to the visits. This time they came to sing Christmas songs to everyone.

Portuguese Food Night

Portuguese Food Night

At Red Oaks, we regularly have themed food events. This gives some of our overseas staff the opportunity to prepare and make food dishes from their native country so that residents can eat and experience something new. The Portuguese food was very well-received by most of the residents, who asked for it again.

Garden Party

Garden Party

Every year, Red Oaks has a Garden Party as a way of saying thank you to all of the relatives, friends and volunteers at the home for all their support throughout the year. This year, to entertain everyone, Helen Bartlett - a regular at Red Oaks - sang. Helen sings songs from a range of eras, including the thirties and fourties, all the way up to the sixties and seventies. To keep everyone in the mood, champagne and strawberries and cream were served throughout the afternoon.
