Activities at Red Oaks Care Home

We believe in making a difference to the lives of people living here with us and ensure that we provide a lifestyle full of choice and stimulation that is centred around each resident here at Red Oaks. This includes a whole host of varied activities, together with regular trips out around the region, taking full advantage of the home’s minibus. Our aim is to enable each person we support to continue to do the things they enjoy for as long as they possibly can.

Sue McHoy

Activities Coordinator

My role as activity coordinator at Red Oaks is ensuring that all residents have a full and varied activity program. Using our getting to know me books and knowing our residents backgrounds develop our activity program. Having lived in Henfield for the past 10 years I enjoy assisting residents maintaining and forming new the community connections.

I am passionate about my role, the part is having fun and making people smile.

Residents enjoying a trip out

Resident always enjoy trips out to the local community in our mini bus, visiting the local garden centres are a favourite with residents.

On the outing this week to the local garden centre Rushfields residents were treated to tea and cake at their coffee shop residents before enjoying walking around and looking at the new season flowers and plants.

The beginning of the change of season and the new opportunities to change the plants in our garden were top of our conversation on how our new autumn winter displays would look like in our extensive gardens and courtyard garden

The Henfield Peacock

The famous Henfield Peacocks decided to spend the afternoon in the Red Oaks gardens much to the amusement and curiosity of our residents and relatives. The whole afternoon was spent talking about the Peacocks. Where are they from? What do they eat? Where do they live?

Celebrating Pride

Red Oaks has thrown a themed garden party to celebrate Pride. With the London Pride theme of 'You, Me, Us, We', Red Oaks residents and staff came together to enjoy a day to promote diversity, inclusion and education of the LGBTQ community.

Staff, residents and guests celebrated with a week of preparation, making decorations for the home and outfits for residents and staff to wear for the day. The chef made a wonderful display of rainbow cup cakes for all to enjoy in the sunshine. The day was topped with a colourful socially distanced parade around the award winning garden. Singing entertainment for the residents was provided by a lovely singer by the name of Kate from Crawley.

Nutrition and Hydration Week Regional Winners!

We celebrated National Nutrition and Hydration week recently, an annual event with a shared objective to highlight, promote and celebrate improvements in the provision of nutrition within social and healthcare.

Barchester set the challenge of a whole week of events for both staff and residents.

Residents and staff were very excited to hear that they were South Regional Winners. Highlights of the week included:

Monday was our Brilliant Brekkie day.  The residents' favourite was freshly made pancakes with a berry compote or lemon & sugar.

Tuesday was our 'super snacks' day, with residents helping to make a variety of dips to eat including guacamole, humus and cream cheese and chive. The wraps made with smoked salmon and prawns were a firm favourite!

Wednesday was our 'savoury sweets and treats' day, and because our residents always enjoy making pizza, the week could not pass without our residents kneading dough and choosing toppings. Sweet treats were left to the chef who made us all homemade fudge!

'Thirsty Thursday' included many cold and hot drinks for everyone to enjoy including our homemade smoothies.

'Fruity Friday' involved residents and staff getting creative with fruit baskets, with residents pealing and chopping and creating an outstanding display which was then eaten by all!

On 'Super Saturday', we handed over to the chefs who treated everyone to high tea with scones and cucumber sandwiches, served on bone china.

Finally on 'Lazy Sunday' our Chef's made a sumptuous 3 course Sunday lunch to top the week off.

We all had a such a fantastic week, highlighting the excellent homemade food at Red Oaks Nursing Home.

Brass Fusion

Thank you Brass Fusion for making us smile!

It was fabulous for Red Oaks to be part of Henfield Street Party, with Brass Fusion playing for us in our beautiful gardens.

With the weather holding off, the music made us all dance and sing, leaving us all with big smiles. Thank you for all the endless songs that you played for 2 hours.

Henfield Garden & Arts Festival

Residents and staff were thrilled to be able to join in this year’s Henfield Garden and Arts Festival. Having produced a display for all to see, named 'A Room with a View', we had so many positive comments from the display.

Recycling is something that is important to us, and when starting conversations on what we were going to use for a display, everyone wanted to use recycled materials.

We were blessed with the weather and lots of visitors came to see the garden and stopped for a cup of tea and sat in our beautiful gardens. All proceeds from the refreshments were donated towards Henfield Football Club.
